Noticed in “House Of The Dragon” Episode 9? Helaena predicted the end – and we don’t mean the coronation!

Helaena Targaryen strikes again: As a teenager (Evie Allen), the daughter of Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Viserys (Paddy Considine), she accurately predicted that her brother Aemond would lose an eye but gain a dragon, also predicting Civil War what House In The Dragon is about. And now in episode 9 as a grown woman (Phia Saban) predicted the end with Rhaenys (Eve Best) crashing through the floor of the dragon pit on her dragon Meleys.

Interestingly, this prophecy was even heard in episode 8 (!). At Targaryen-Velaryon’s big family dinner, when it seems for a moment that the approaching “Dance of the Dragons” can still be averted, she says shortly before her toast: “Beware of the beast under the shelves.”

At the time, however, those who knew George RR Martin’s book “Fire and Blood” understood it more as a nod to a terrible event in Helaena’s own future – keyword blood and cheese. A “beast among the shelves” can also be a rat, and many of these little beasts have already meaningfully walked through the image in “House Of The Dragon”. You can read more about this in this article (warning, spoilers!):

However, in episode 9, the phrase “Beware of the beast under the shelves” is repeated – and after the finale with Rhaenys and Meleys, it takes on a very different (possible) meaning: Because here is actually an animal (= Meleys) under the planks (= the floor) that those present have to watch out for.

Of course, the floor of the dragon pit is not laid with planks (by the way, she also says “planks” in the original English language), but because Helaena repeats her prophecy in connection with the death of her father and the dispute over the throne, her comment correct at least ambiguous.

When two fight…

And speaking of arguments, there is of course another prophecy from Helaena in Episode 9, where “It seems to be our destiny to always crave what others have. If one has something, another will take it from him.” is already very clear compared to her cryptic statement about beasts and plates.

What is meant, of course, is the dispute over the Iron Throne or the succession to the thronewho want to steal the two factions of House Targaryen from each other.

After episode 9 the focus was almost exclusively on the greens around Alicent, in the last episode of season 1 we now see the counterattack of the blacks around Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). “House Of The Dragon” Episode 10 will be released on October 24, 2022 on Sky and WOW (Sky Ticket).
