Cocktails are delicious and refreshing, but they are very high in calories.

When it comes to food, we often pay attention to calories. But when it comes to alcohol, we often don’t think about it. Especially stupid if you want to pay attention to the shape.

Allison Hagendorf, a certified health and lifestyle coach, writes in the magazine “Exploding Candy”: «Unlike macronutrients such as protein, fat and carbohydrates, alcohol contains only “empty” calories that provide no nutrients. The body’s response: It uses empty calories as energy reserves and prioritizes fat burning of other calories.”

Alcoholic beverages that are high in calories can easily contribute to weight gain. You can find out what these are and what more line-friendly alternatives are here.

Six reasons why mixed drinks make you fat

  1. The worst thing you can do to your body is mixed drinks. This includes our favorite cocktail! Especially Piña Colada and White Russian are real calorie bombs. Thanks to the combination of rum, coconut cream and sugar, the Piña Colada has about 300 calories per glass, the White Russian has about 450 calories per drink (average daily requirement for weight loss: women: 1600 kcal / men: 2000 kcal). You should also avoid mixing alcohol with energy drinks because they also contain a lot of calories and sugar.
  2. If you really want to pay attention to your diet, it’s best to stay away from margaritas and daiquiris. Although the drinks do not contain cream or milk, the calorie content is usually between 500 and 700 calories per glass due to the syrup.
  3. The popular sangria also has a special feature: The combination of sweet syrup, sugar and fruit juice increases the number of calories. It is better to mix it yourself and avoid sugar and syrup. Add fresh fruit to wine instead and eliminate unnecessary calories.
  4. So don’t let happy hour tempt you next time, enjoy a nice wine instead. But it’s best to drink a dry wine, not a sweet one: sweet wine has about 100 to 150 more calories than dry wine. If you do not like dry wines, you can also mix your wine with water and drink it as a spritzer.
  5. In general, it’s a good idea to dilute alcohol with water: water is calorie-free and you can mix it well with vodka and gin. If you want to add more flavor to your drink, add a slice of lemon or lime.
  6. A few words about beer: It’s probably self-explanatory, but light beer has fewer calories than dark, spicy beer, despite having the same amount of alcohol. Beer also makes you virtually healthy: Beer contains polyphenols that can reduce the risk of heart disease. By the way: When you drink too much beer, it’s often not the beer itself that makes you fat, but the cravings it triggers.
