Longer wait for Stephen King’s “IT” series – but the planned start date for the clown horror was perfect!

It’s not that new films and series based on Stephen King material aren’t released regularly; Fans of the horror master, who also like to see his works adapted into films, will certainly not be bored. For example, the “Cemetery of the Cuddly Toys” prequel “Bloodlines” just started on Paramount+.

But it’s another prequel that fans have been licking their fingers at for a long time, which is why the just-announced postponement of the start date is particularly painful: In “Welcome to Derry“prehistory becomes”IT“told – and after all, Andy Muschietti’s ‘IT’ film adaptation is the most successful horror film of all time. So it’s no wonder that horror fans are paying particular attention to the series, which Andy Muschietti also oversees. But ‘Welcome To Derry’ has now been postponed and is not expected to start until 2025!

“Welcome To Derry”: Missed opportunity for the perfect start date

HBO boss Casey Bloys said this out loud during a press event in New York. Although the postponement is not yet final, Bloys already spoke in the past about the previously planned start date – and this one would have been absolutely perfect for Stephen King’s horror series: “We had that [‚Welcome To Derry‘] scheduled for Halloween 2024.”

Now the series is postponed “probably until 2025”. It remains to be hoped that HBO won’t wait for the spooky Halloween festival in October to publish the series. When it comes to Bloys’ wording, there’s still a small glimmer of hope that ‘Welcome To Derry’ will still hit screens in late 2024, but there’s not much wiggle room after Halloween in October. The HBO boss did not give a specific reason, but the Hollywood strikes are probably the reason: the script could not be worked on for a long time and the actors still cannot appear in front of the lens.

Not only the prequel to “ES” is affected – also “The White Lotus”

Set in the ‘ES’ universe, ‘Welcome To Derry’ tells the backstory of the horror character who later causes mischief as clown Pennywise and his connection to the small town of Derry. Details about the story are unknown, but the actors include: Madeleine Stowe, Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk and James Remar. Andy Muschietti will direct some episodes and also produce them with his sister Barbara Muscheletti.

There was also bad news for fans of the biting satirical series.”The White Lotus“. The third season was planned for 2024, and here too the start will be postponed to 2025, Bloys said.
