Silvestre Dangond returns to romance on his new album

Colombian singer-songwriter Silvestre Dangond returns with a bang to once again revolutionize the universe of vallenato music with a “dream album”, inspired by love, that reflects a different way of seeing life.

The artist, born in 1980 in Urumita, a city in the Caribbean department of La Guajira, about 45 kilometers from Valledupar, the world capital of vallenato, and winner of two Latin Grammys, this Thursday presents “‘Ta Malo”, his 15th studio album, which he talked about in an interview for EFE from Miami (USA).

“I have always focused on love on this album. I stated this before I chose the first song (…) I said: ‘the next album I will record I will work on the basis of love’ and the songs began to fascinate me “They arrived and , it seems incredible, everyone was talking about love, reconciliation, suitors, falling in love,” he says.

The title of this production, he assures, is a response to his critics who, when they release new albumthey say it’s bad (‘Ta Malo) and that’s why “this time I gave them pleasure and got ahead of them.”

The father of the “wild world”, as they call him passion his followers, assures that in this work, recorded with two accordionists, Rubén Darío Lana Jr. and José Juan Camilo “Morocho”, and for which he composed three songs, a combination of “many inspirations” because “the composers became accomplices of my desires” to sing about love.

Opportunity of a lifetime

Songs like “That woman is mine”, which defines as “a story to always believe in love”; “Your suitor”, which “has a very strong mind control power”, or “La vallenata”, composed by Silvestre himself, in which he tells about his life, are some of the 15 compositions on the album.

“When artists are pure, genuine, they always want to express something in themselves albums. Every time I go to record an album, I feel that it is an opportunity given to me by life, the universe, nature, that I can express what I have in me,” he says.

As he explains, “La vallenata” was born from inspiration sudden when the production was practically finished and that’s why “it was the last song that went on the album”.

“I promised there would only be 14 songs, but you can’t say no to music, especially with a ‘bunch’ of songs like this. This is a song that many sylvesters will identify with because they know my story,” he says.

Aware of the musical phenomenon he had become, he included “Vallenato is wild”a composition by Everard Armenta with high accordion notes referring to the artist “whose life sings” as “the joy of the people” and to this rhythm as “national pride”.

However, his favorite is “We committed it”, oa adventure a love for which he affirms: “That song has something special for me” because its musical structure gave him so much work that in the end he “fell in love with it”.

Return to Valledupar

With this album, Silvestre will return next November 10 in the Parque de la Leyenda Vallenata in Valledupar to indulge his followers with a concert that will mark his return to the temple of this musical genre after five years and after announcing his retirement last December.

“I know it has not been easy in recent years because of the metamorphosis, because of many things that have happened in my life. Five years ago, since 2018, when I made (the album) ‘Esto es vida’ I have not revolutionized Valledupar again”, after which there was a break in the relationship and “that’s why I decided to stop”, he says.

During this period, Silvestre ventured to launch last year “Intruso”, an album of urban music with accordion, an experience he defines as an “addition” to diversify his musical portfolio.

“My essence is clear (…) it’s an addition that I added to my career, but my essence is impossible to change,” he says and adds: “What I do, I do it on purpose, I do it so that I feel, I never do it because they whisper in my ear, because the record company forces me, I do everything with conviction.”

The artist assures that despite fame and success it is not easy to stay on top and that is why he can’t wait to reunite with his audience.

“I know that New Year’s Eve is waiting for me with open arms; I am full of expectations, the return was not easy. Who believes that this is, as we say, ‘blowing and making bottles’, and no, it is not easy”.
