“I Didn’t Do That”: Nicolas Cage’s performance in “The Flash” was never filmed that way

Although critics responded quite positively to “The Flash” (in fact, the official FILMSTARTS review by editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen gave it an excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars), the DC blockbuster was directed by “IT” creator Andy Muschietti. bad at the box office. Here, every effort was made to capture the audience on a nostalgic emotional level with surprising guest appearances and the return of Michael Keaton as Batman.

In the finale, in which “The Flash” speeds through the various multiverses, we are also offered a scene in which we see Nicolas Cage (“Mandy”) as Superman fighting a giant spider. This sequence is a very special treat, as a Tim Burton ‘Superman’ movie would be made in the 1990s, with Cage playing the lead role. However, the project was scrapped.

Nicolas Cage has never filmed the scene in ‘The Flash’ like this.

Nicolas Cage’s performance is now seen in a new light. Opposite The Oscar-winning actor explained that he never filmed the scene like this: “When I saw the movie, I was fighting a giant spider. I never did that. […] I literally spent an hour filming a scene in a suit, watching the destruction of a universe and trying to convey the feelings of loss, sadness and fear in my eyes. That’s all I did.’ In his own words, he ‘just stood there’.

Nicolas Cage, who is a strong opponent of the use of artificial intelligence and describes it as a ‘nightmare’ and ‘maximally inhumane’, assumes that in his case no AI was used in ‘The Flash’, but not via CGI only a rejuvenation treatment of his face was made, but also that creature and the fight were realized.

While CGI creatures are of course not uncommon, especially in comic book adaptations, Cage doesn’t seem to like the fact that he didn’t know what his scene would ultimately look like in the film. Apparently that’s not why he’s so mad at director Andy Muschietti: “He’s a great director, a great guy and I loved his two ‘IT’ movies.”
