‘Yellowstone’ itself will soon come to an end in its current form, but the serial universe surrounding the neo-Western hit, which has grown rapidly in recent years, is far from over. After the spin-offs “1883” and “1923” (the latter will also get a second season), the world will soon be further expanded with the series “6666” and “1944”. In addition, ‘Yellowstone’ will also be continued immediately in a slightly different format and with a new leading actor (the dropped Kevin Costner may be replaced by Matthew McConaughey).
But first we’ll move on to the loose spinoff “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” which was originally announced as an offshoot of the “Yellowstone” prequel “1883.” The end result now stands even more strongly on its own two feet, although it also goes back to the 19th century and therefore to the Wild West itself. Here, the titular law enforcement officer (played by “Selma” star David Oyelowo) tries to maintain law and order. Bass Reeves is a real historical figure who, after escaping slavery, became the first black deputy marshal west of the Mississippi River and is said to have arrested 3,000 criminals during his active time without being injured once.

As the title of “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” suggests, if successful, the series could become an anthology format, with each season telling the completed stories of different law enforcement officers of the Wild West.
This time, Germany is already starting parallel to the US
‘Lawmen: Bass Reeves’ was developed by ‘Ray Donovan’ episode writer Chad Feehan, a novelty for the ‘Yellowstone’ franchise, which has always had the all-rounder Taylor Sheridan (‘Tulsa King’, ‘Wind River’) as creator . However, Sheridan played a key role in moving the project forward and is part of the production team.
Another “Yellowstone” novelty, at least for the German region: As the first title in the series universe, the new offshoot will be shown in this country in parallel with the American launch – and in just a few days: “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” debuts on the Paramount+ streaming service on November 5, 2023where the other ‘Yellowstone’ series can also be found.
