“Spider-Man: About the Spider-Verse“ is incredibly good: fast-paced action, creative worlds, countless metagags and cleverly designed characters. For us at the editors, the film is one of the animation highlights of the year and just missed the highest score in the FILMSTARTS review by author Björn Becher with 4.5 out of 5 possible points. And yet, for some viewers (whether in theaters or streaming on Netflix), the movie experience was certainly quite unsatisfying, as after 140 minutes of uninterrupted creative fire, Miles Morales’ latest adventure ends rather abruptly.
Even though this may have confused parts of the audience, at least after a visit to the cinema it was not tragic, because at the time it was still possible to console oneself with the fact that the conclusion of the Miles Morales saga was already a planned theatrical had an idea. release date in the near future. “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” should be released in German cinemas on March 28, 2024.
But puff pastry cake! The long-awaited conclusion to the Miles Morales trilogy was released by Sony postponed indefinitely. On the one hand, this has to do with the consequences of the double strike, which this year paralyzed the processes in Hollywood for months and made it impossible to get the speakers of the third part into the dubbing studios. On the other hand, it also has to happen behind the scenes there were some problemsso it now seems questionable whether the actual intended start date was ever realistic.
The sequel was bigger than expected
It was not the intention from the start to release the sequels as a standalone two-part film. In the FILMSTARTS interview, the creative minds behind the Spider-Man animated film Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed that it was only during the process of working on the sequel that it became clear that their story about Miles Morales simply offers too much material and a film simply cannot provide this experience to match would do justice. Even though there is currently no start date for “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” (we are still hoping for a late 2024 release) and therefore have to live with the open ending of the second part longer than originally planned, we are Now happily on to the third part. Hopefully the long wait is worth it and the finale can match the qualities of the first two films and bring the story to a successful conclusion.
