It’s the end of the month and the last few cents have been spent on Halloween decorations? And next month, streaming providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video & Co. punch a hole in your wallet again? Then of course the situation isn’t exactly helped by the fact that Disney+ has announced a switch to three new models before November 1 – and that also includes a price increase!
Because the service that you now receive in your regular subscription for 8.99 euros will cost new customers 11.99 euros per month in the future.
However, if you already have an annual subscription to Disney+ or if you take it out before November 1, 2023, nothing will change for you for the time being. After November 1, current subscription users will keep their current subscription at the existing price, which will automatically be renamed “Premium” and you can continue to stream as usual (although Disney obviously reserves the right to make any changes).
The new subscription models include a price increase
From November 1, in addition to a standard subscription to Disney+, which costs you 8.99 euros per month (or 89.90 euros if paid annually), There is also an ad-funded and a premium version.
If you are now thinking: “So far I have only paid 8.99 euros per month”, I can tell you that you will not get the same service for the same price in the future. If you want to continue streaming your movies in 4K (previously included in the standard subscription), you will soon have to dig deeper into your pockets and pay a premium subscription of 11.99 euros per month or 119.90 if billed annually. Premium subscribers can also run four streams simultaneously in one household and access Dolby Atmos for audio output. Subscribers of the other models only have stereo 5.1 sound and can only use two parallel streams.
There is also an ad-supported option
Anyone who receives the standard subscription for 8.99 euros per month (or 89.90 euros if paid annually) from November 1, 2023 will only be able to stream in Full HD, so up to 1080p. In any case, you should not expect any interruptions in the standard version.
However, this is available if you use the cheapest model, you pay 5.99 euros per month or 59.90 euros if you pay annually. With this commercial savings package, there are occasional commercial breaks during the streams. The extent of these fractures is currently unknown.
But Disney hasn’t just learned a lot from its competitors when it comes to implementing an advertising-funded savings model. Like Netflix, the streaming service Mouse Studio also wants to take more action against account sharing in the future. So if you’ve been sharing Disney+ with your friends so far, you should think quickly about creating your own account…
