Anime and manga culture have now gone mainstream in Germany, almost completely taking over (at least in some bookstores) the comics section. The Japanese export hit is also making progress in other areas, as recently evidenced by the success of the Netflix live-action adaptation of ‘One Piece’. One market where there is still some catching up to do in this country is the theatrical release of popular anime films and blockbusters from Japan.
In the meantime, these often get a limited theatrical release in this country, but if you don’t get your tickets quickly enough, you’re often stuck. With these limited theatrical releases, the films are often shown for only a few days or over a weekend. If you can’t get to the cinemas on these days, you’re unfortunately out of luck.
This week, anime fans need to be doubly careful, because of “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” And “Detective Conan Movie 26: The Black Submarine“, two potentially exciting cinema sequels of well-known and popular series are starting, which can only be seen on the big screen for a few days.
“Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” – only in theaters October 27!
It starts with “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning” on October 27. At an exclusive event, the continuation of the popular series ‘Digimon’ will be shown in Germany on approximately 250 screens, in parallel with the Japanese cinema release. A special thank you from the makers for the support of the fans over the years. But be careful: this special showing is just an anime hit shown in the original version with German subtitles!
If you don’t want to miss the famous German voices, you’ll have to wait until 2024. The film will then be released in cinemas again in the German-language version – but a specific date is still pending.
“Detective Conan Movie 26: The Black Submarine” – in theaters October 31!
“Detective Conan Movie 26: The Black Submarine” will also receive a limited theatrical release. The shrunken detective’s latest cinematic outing, featured in “Detective Conan“, which can crack even the toughest puzzle nuts, will hit theaters just in time for Halloween on October 31, 2023. The film is shown in both a German and a Japanese version (of course with subtitles) – the cinemas decide which version to show.
However, this theatrical release is not as strictly limited as “Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning”. If you don’t have time on Halloween because you’re going around the house in disguise looking for candy, you probably have a chance to see the 26th cinematic adventure of Shin’ichi Kudō and his friend* on one of the following days. can be seen on the big screen inside. But here too, the sooner you get your tickets, the better.
