Mike Flanagan (“The Fall of the House of Usher”) is one of the most prominent and perhaps even best horror directors working today. This is also proven by his Stephen King film adaptations “Doctor Sleep” and “The Game”: According to the author of this article, Flanagan managed to get to the essence of the original in an atmospheric way – a rarity, as very few filmmakers achieve this, Stephen King is adequately implemented cinematically. It is therefore gratifying that Flanagan is currently working on another of King’s stories, “Chuck’s Life” (also known as “The Life Of Chuck”).
After that had already been announced Mark Hamill (“Star Wars”) and Tom Hiddleston (“Loki”) will participate in the film, a number of names have now been confirmed. Marvel stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (“Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness”) and Karen Gillan (“Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3”) are also participating. There is also Jacob Tremblay, known for “Predator: Upgrade”, “Good Boys” and “Raum”.
This is “Chuck’s Life”
“Chuck’s Life” is a short story published in 2020 in the novella collection “Bloody News”. Central to the action is Charles Krantz, who dies at the age of 39 from a brain tumor. Charles’ biography is told in three parts, unfolding backwards rather than chronologically. The ending point in Stephen King’s original is Charles’ childhood in an allegedly haunted house.
Tom Hiddleston plays Charles Krantz, while Mark Hamill plays his grandfather Albie. It is still unclear which parts Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan and Jacob Tremblay will take on. In Tremblay’s case, you can be sure he embodies the young Charles. Mike Flanagan will not only direct, but also write the script. For theater, you want to orient yourself to ‘Stand By Me’, ‘The Condemned’ and ‘The Green Mile’, three of the best Stephen King adaptations of all time.
