New on Netflix: This DC series is much better than Zack Snyder’s “Justice League” – and unfortunately hardly known in Germany

We have Bruce Timm to thank for highlights from the 1990s animated series such as ‘Batman: The Animated Series’, ‘Superman: The Animated Series’ and ‘Batman Of The Future’. With his work, the showrunner, director and author has helped free comic book culture from its niche existence, paving the way for the gigantic superhero blockbusters that have been entertaining us in cinemas for years. One of the series that has always flown somewhat under the radar in this country, but does not have to hide from the above-mentioned productions, is ‘The League of the Righteous’.

The Justice League series with the name that sounds a bit old-fashioned in the German translation (the original title is “Justice League Unlimited”) not only puts the spotlight on the heroes of the first row, but also gives space to the second guard. Characters such as Black Canary, Vixen, Vigilante, Shining Knight, Booster Gold and Huntress get their episodes here, as do the great DC heroes Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman & Co.

Starting today, October 24, 2023, you can watch the first season of ‘The League of the Righteous’ and the first 13 episodes of the animated series on Netflix.

Fantastic speakers and original ideas

Even though the first season of the show isn’t bad and has some great individual episodes, the show really takes off in season 2. Then the ‘Case of the Week’ episodes fade more and more into the background and a multi-episode story makes the series a real highlight for all comedy nerds. By comparison, even multi-million dollar blockbuster productions like “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” look old.

Conversely, that does not mean that the first season can simply be skipped. After all, we get a successful introduction to the Justice League and are introduced to the new contenders (good to know: the actual introduction actually took place earlier in the previous series “Justice League”, which, however, was never translated into German). . In addition, the opening season can also score points with some excellent storylines. How about a superhero western story or a time travel episode where Batman meets the Batman Of The Future?

Additionally, the roles are absolutely amazing, especially in the English version. Kevin Conroy can be heard here again in his star role as Batman, while Clancy Brown delivers fantastic voice work as Lex Luthor, as in ‘Superman: The Animated Series’. So it is really hoped that Netflix will not stick to one season, but will add the remaining two seasons to its offering in the near future.
