Thursday is cinema day – and of course there are a number of really top films showing in German cinemas today. Including Martin Scorsese’s groundbreaking 3.5-hour true crime drama “Killers of the flower moon“which every film lover probably already had on their list in advance as a possible candidate in the race for the best film of the year.
But also in addition to this monumental film experience, the ‘A party for life” And “Trolls 3 – Strong together“Two more strong and extremely entertaining titles. So anyone who doesn’t have the time or inclination for the new Scorsese, who will certainly demand a lot from his viewers, will certainly find a successful alternative program in these films.
“Killers Of The Flower Moon”
Real cinephiles will not be able to ignore this film event. In “Killers Of The Flower Moon” Martin Scorsese (“Taxi Driver”) teams up again with some of his favorite actors. This time, Leonardo DiCaprio (“Shutter Island”) and Hollywood veteran Robert De Niro (“GoodFellas – Three Decades in the Mafia”), two long-time collaborators of the virtuoso director, were in front of the camera.
We were able to see the film at the Cannes Film Festival and were absolutely thrilled. In our FILMSTARTS review Scorsese’s latest work just missed the highest rating (4.5 out of 5 stars). Editor-in-chief Christoph Petersen comes to the following conclusion:
“A Celebration of Life”
The German film industry likes to look to the French market for fresh ideas. Surprisingly, the results are usually consistent copies that can add a number of new facets to the original – as in the case of Sönke Wortmann’s “The First Name”, in which the dispute over the name “Adolf” is considerably more politically explosive and a source of friction than in the model of the same name from France, in which the unborn boy would be called Adolphe.
And also Richard Hubers “A party for life“ is a harmonious remake of the French hit comedy ‘Life is a Celebration’. This is not least thanks to a wonderfully cheerful Christoph Maria Herbst, who leads a fantastic acting ensemble with his usual quick humor. Perhaps it is ultimately thanks to him that our author Markus Tschiedert gives 4 out of 5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review and states that French cinema comes up with better comedies, but that these are sometimes implemented even better in Germany.
“Trolls 3 – Strong together”
For those who don’t like Scorsese or successful remakes of French comedies, this week we have “Trolls 3 – Strong together“. The colorful and squeaky animated series has really found its feet after a somewhat bumpy start and has been offering sugar-sweet movie fun since “Trolls 2 – Trolls World Tour” at the latest.
“Trolls 3 – Strong Together” is also successful (3.5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review) and focuses on known strengths. The audience is treated to a tasty, over-the-top party mix of pop songs, sweet characters and crazy humor. Anyone who likes to add a generous spoonful of sugar to their cereal in the morning will probably also enjoy the latest installment in the ‘Trolls’ series.
