The director and screenwriter has repeatedly made it clear in the past that Matthew Vaughn has big plans for both the ‘Kingsman’ and ‘Kick-Ass’ series. There was talk of a total of seven ‘Kingsman’ films and a TV series, as well as a ‘Kick-Ass reboot’ and other sequels in late 2021, before things calmed down on the hit franchises.
In recent years, Vaughn has had his hands full with the star-studded spy thriller “Argylle,” into which he has also poured his collective financial resources. Vaughn and his production company Marv Studios largely finance his films themselves, making it difficult to manage multiple projects at once.
After “Argylle” hits international theaters in February 2024, Vaughn should have more time (and money) for other projects. And the filmmaker has clear priorities: Work should start next year “Kingsman 3: The Blue Bloods‘ and the ‘Kick-Ass’ reboot.
“Kick-Ass” reboot without Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloë Grace Moretz
Both films would be at the top of the filmmaker’s priority list, as he explained during a panel at New York Comic Con (through ):
The reboot is therefore not intended to focus on the well-known characters surrounding Dave Lizewski aka Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Mindy Macready aka Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz), but rather to introduce new characters. . Whether these come from the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. or are newly developed remains to be seen. A reunion with Taylor-Johnson and Moretz’s characters could await us in a sequel, a prequel or a spin-off, which Vaughn doesn’t want to tackle until after the reboot.
Vaughn even says he wants to tackle both films next year – It remains to be seen if he’ll eventually find the time to step into the director’s chair for ‘Kingsman 3: The Blue Blood’ AND the ‘Kick-Ass’ reboot. It’s also possible that Vaughn will gain support (as he did with “Kick-Ass 2”) in continuing the action franchise. Either way, fans of comedy blockbusters will certainly be happy to hear that Matthew Vaughn isn’t done with the comic book series just yet.
