Shablis

Burgundy consists of six subregions stretching from north to south for approximately 250 kilometers as the crow flies. The landscape is particularly known for its picturesque canals and rows of vineyards. Everywhere you can find historical buildings, wineries and castles, some of which have been converted into luxury hotels. Chablis, in northern Burgundy, is known for its namesake dry white wines. The Côte-d’Or (Gold Coast) consists of the northern part, the Côte de Nuits, and the southern part, the Côte de Beaune. Côte de Beaune

One of the prominent historical sites of the Côte de Beaune is the Monastery of Fontenay, which has been declared an Unseco World Heritage Site for its historical significance. Because of the preserved buildings and gardens, the movie “Cyrano de Bergerac” (1990) starring Gérard Depardieu was shot here. A fine wine or two was bound to be spilled during filming, as the Côte de Beaune is known for growing 35 different types of wine within a radius of just a few kilometres.

Flavigny

Fly: A special event of Chalon is the Paulee Festival, when during one weekend in October the entire town is transformed into a festival ground in honor of wine and good taste. Private tours and gala dinners are offered afterwards.

Maconnais

The southern region of Mâconnais is named after the town of Mâcon. This wine-growing region stretches along a strip 10 kilometers wide and 35 kilometers long between Sennecey-le-Grand and Saint-Vérand. Here the rugged landscape alternates with rock formations and valleys, the Grosne valley to the west and the Saône to the east; Ideal if you want to have active holidays. Anyone who likes to explore the area by bike will love the Voie Bleue cycle path. It runs along waterways from Luxembourg via Burgundy to Lyon.

Beaujolais

The Beaujolais region, north of the city of Lyon, is geographically part of Burgundy, but is considered a separate region by wine experts. Because red wines obtained primarily from the Gamay grape variety are successful here with a distinctive, elegant fruity character. The name of this region comes from the historical capital Beaujeau. The beautiful location is a comfortable starting point for tours of the surrounding area.

Dijon

Dijon, the former capital of Burgundy, is located in the Côte-d’Or region. The city takes its name from the famous Dijon mustard, which is made with grape must, not vinegar as usual. It’s not just the food that’s impressive in Dijon, but also the architecture. The Duke’s Palace and the beautiful half-timbered houses in the old town are of particular interest. The Palace of the Dukes is famous because the Musée des Beaux-Arts was founded here in 1787. The basilica at Paray-le-Monial and the Hôtel-Dieu hospice with its original furnishings are also particularly worth seeing.
