Horror highlight with FSK 18 new in home cinema: the celebrated slasher series appears fully unabridged for the first time as a complete box set

With 2018’s ‘Halloween’, David Gordon Green gave us one of the best films John Carpenter’s Michael Myers saga has ever produced – and by far the most successful. With ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’ he then showed great courage to break with the series and the expectations of his fans – which delighted many filmgoers, offended others and created a lot of conversation. More than a year after the finale of his three-part series, now finally comes what many Myers fans have probably been waiting for for a long time:

The ‘Halloween’ trilogy – including ‘Halloween’, ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’ – is available in a fully unabridged set for the first time since October 12. As a strictly limited collector’s edition:

Universal Pictures is giving the series a limited edition that includes all three feature films on 4K Blu-ray. A special highlight is of course the presentation of the publication: the box is delivered in a high-quality box which has room for three steelbooks – one for each film. All this, of course, in a pumpkin orange uniform design that fits perfectly with the autumnal slasher fun. And the start of the sale is of course also perfectly timed, two and a half weeks before Halloween.

The nice thing about the box: It is and remains complete! No extra chapters thrown out of the loop, no interludes missing – Green’s three-part series is part of a larger whole, but also works independently and is considered complete.

Well, you should still see John Carpenter’s original. Aside from “Halloween – The Night of Horrors,” no further Myers orgies of slaughter are needed to have fun with the trilogy. Even though there are numerous small allusions to various sequels, these are completely ignored in the Green chapters.

More brutal than ever: this is the ‘Halloween’ trilogy

With ‘Halloween’, set 40 years after the original, David Gordon Green gave horror fans a great example of a cult revival – in which he enriched familiar elements with fresh ideas while simultaneously honoring the original. And if there’s one thing you can’t accuse the director and author of, it’s inconsistency:

In ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’ he continues that line and even goes one or two steps further in every respect. Michael Myers is “more ruthless and sadistic than ever before,” as our “Kills” review says, and no later than “Halloween Ends” he goes from the classic horror figure of the Black Man to manifesting fear itself. the three of us Movies rated four, three and a half, and four out of five possible stars, making Green’s “Halloween” trilogy one of the best and most consistent horror movie series in recent memory.

Personally, I couldn’t do much with some of the screenplay decisions in Part 2 and Part 3, but I can still get a lot out of the trilogy: the opening film is one of his favorite horror films of the last twenty years. years and the love for the entire series is also evident in the sequels that become clear again and again, making the trilogy more than worth seeing for fans. In any case, I can hardly wait to expand my “Halloween” shelf with the limited set…
