Everything is ready for the 21st edition of the French film tour, which starts on October 19, and is held as part of the celebration of the centenary of the Place de France.
It’s a festival for Francophile film buffs Panama, who will be able to enjoy the screening 7 French films until November 1.
This edition is a journey into diversity contemporary French cinematography with cinephiles well-known filmmakers and personalities that in some cases premiered at the Cannes festival and other renowned festivals.
Each of the seven films will be shown twice, two weeks, in the following Cinépolises: Altaplaza, El Dorado, Multiplaza, Westland and VIP for Panama and Federal Mall David.
All films will be shown in French, but subtitled in Spanish.
Movies
– “Sugar and stars”: From a young age, Yazid had only one passion: baking. Raised between an adoptive family and several foster homes, nothing predestined him for that career. However, his determination and ingenuity helped him succeed in the elite world of baking. The film is based on the true story of Yazid Ichemrahen and his biographical book “Un rêve d’enfant étoilé” in which he talks about how the young man had to overcome his traumas and change his indomitable character in order to succeed in working with the most sought after… after pastry chefs and become among the best.
– “My crime”: Madeleine is a young and beautiful actress, without money and without too much talent, who lives in Paris in the 1930s. Unfortunately for her, she was accused of murdering a famous producer. With the help of her best friend Pauline, a young unemployed lawyer, she was acquitted of murder in self-defense.
– “Serious business”: Benjamin is a student who, after failing medical school, despite his lack of experience, accepts a job teaching mathematics at a school in the suburbs of Paris, driven by the need for money and pressure from his father. Without any training, he discovers the difficulties and benefits of being a high school teacher where he will meet a group of students and colleagues with whom he will bond closely and who will change his vision of the profession.
– “New beginning”: Alain and Diane lived together for 30 years. Alain, in his head, is still 30 years old. But for Diane, things are very different. Routine, empty nest syndrome and, on top of that, a job where turning fifty is like an incurable disease, create a much less euphoric effect for her. Alain loves Diane with all his heart and is willing to do something unexpectedly crazy for her, something very risky to help her regain her vitality.
– “Memories of Paris”: One Saturday night, Mia is trapped in terrorist attack in a Parisian bistro from which he leaves alive. Three months later, still unable to get her life back on track and remembering only bits of that night, Mía decides to investigate with the survivors of the attack and delve into their memories to find a way back to happiness.
– “Lie to me”: After agreeing to be the ambassador of a famous cognac brand celebrating its bicentennial, novelist Stéphane Belcourt returns to his hometown for the first time in 35 years. There she meets Lucas, the son of her first love. Memories flood him: the first experiences of adolescence, uncontrollable desire, bodies that merge, a passion that needs to be silenced…
– “Book of Solutions”: In the purest Michel Gondry style, the film tells the story of Marc, a film director, who escapes with his production team to a small town to complete the editing of his film at his aunt Denise’s house. There, his creativity manifests itself in a million ideas that plunge him into unusual chaos as he tries to overcome his demons. Marc then begins to write the “Book of Solutions”, a guide of practical advice that may contain the answer to all his problems.
