Years after the announcement, the time has finally come (!): the underrated Disney film will be continued as a series in 2024

The project was announced more than three years ago, but since then it has been very quiet around ‘Tiana’. The animated series was intended to continue the adventures of the first African-American Disney Princess Tiana from the classic animated adventure “Kiss the Frog.” A final update took place in 2021. A long time, especially in the fast-changing world of streaming services – and fans were already worried that the project might have been put on hold. But now things finally seem to be moving.

How exclusively reported, the series has now found a screenwriter and director: Joyce Sherri (“Midnight Mass”) will take the creative reins of the production. There is already talk of a loose release period: the series should be available on Disney+ as early as 2024.

For all fans of the animated adventure, there is another reason to rejoice: Of Anika Noni Rose The original Tiana voice actress from Kiss the Frog returns to voice the Disney princess.

In terms of content, the series will follow the events from the animated fairy tale. “Tiana” will be about the title character of the same name, who, as the new princess of Maldonia, must overcome a number of challenges and experience new adventures. At the same time, however, the call of the past of her life in New Orleans does not let her go…

If you want to enjoy ‘Kiss the Frog’ again in the run-up to the series’ release, you can find the romantic fairytale currently on sale on Disney+. Definitely worth a visit. One of the last classic 2D animated films released by the studio, the animated adventure leads a rather shadowy existence in the extensive Disney portfolio and is often overlooked when mentioning successful productions from the Mouse House.

But that’s not true, because the great Southern setting, dark voodoo theme and some successful musical numbers alone make ‘Kiss the Frog’ an animated delight that is definitely worth seeing. This is also backed up by our FILMSTARTS review, which gives the film a fantastic 4 out of 5 stars.
