Fan dreams come true: the first trailer of the long-awaited horror remake promises an insane splatter grenade

People screaming and gesticulating wildly, the look of a videocassette that has been replayed a few too many times and a carnage that is difficult to hear and see: that’s what promises the first trailer for “The poisonous avenger“ – the new edition of the biggest hit by cult band Troma.

Troma Entertainment launched the remake together with Legendary Pictures, which has finally reached its destination more than ten years after the first rumors surrounding the project: And how! The first preview is officially only called a “teaser”. And that actually hits the nail on the head. Because the preview shows, in addition to some television reports, what – typical Troma! – life of visual and content madness, only a short, epic appearance of the eponymous hero: After several eyewitness accounts about the infected ‘Toxie’, he seems to actually end a hostage situation in his own personal way. You see just enough to want more.

However, the teaser should reassure all those fans of the iconic original who feared that the star-studded Hollywood remake would lack consistency when it comes to blood and madness. In addition to a brief splash interlude where the camera stays in focus, there is also a massive carnage teased in the “Miss Meat” dinner – but not yet revealed in its full power. While many trailers nowadays already anticipate major highlights, we assume that in the case of “The Toxic Avenger” the makers are deliberately keeping the major visual and substantive highlights of their film hidden for the time being and will only reveal them in the finale. video.

This is what awaits you in “The Toxic Avenger”

The story revolves around janitor Winston Gooze, who falls into a barrel of toxic waste and eventually turns into the Toxic Avenger. From then on, he declares war on the evil forces in his hometown and confronts the corruption that exists there to give his son, his friends and the entire community a better life.

The original ‘Toxic Avenger’ was made in 1984 on a budget of just $500,000 and without any major stars, but has achieved cult status over the past four decades as the flagship of the production studio Troma – not only spawning several sequels and even a animated series, but also means that the new edition is filled with absolute A-list celebrities.

The leading role is played by ‘Game Of Thrones’ crowd favorite Peter Dinklage, who has plenty of star power and horror experience around him. Also participating are “Friday the 13th” and “Tremors” cult star Kevin Bacon, Jane Levy, known for “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe”, Jacob Tremblay (“Doctor Sleeps Awakening”) and also as ‘Lord of the Rings’ star Elijah Wood, who shares a great love for horror cinema and has been working there for several years not only as an actor (for example in ‘Maniac’) but also as a producer (of films such as “Mandy” and “De Kleur uit de Ruimte ”).

While original creators Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz are on board as producers, Macon Blair took over the director’s chair. Blair already directed Netflix’s ‘Stranger in the World’ (including Elijah Wood), wrote the screenplays for ‘Wolf’s Nights’ and ‘Small Crimes’ and is otherwise best known as an actor. He has appeared in such celebrated hits as “Green Room,” “The Chaos Cop,” “The Florida Project” and most recently in Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece “Oppenheimer.”

It is not yet known when “The Toxic Avenger” will be released in Germany. After the world premiere, the film will initially be shown at Beyond Fest and in October at the renowned Sitges Film Festival.
