“Bambi” is one of Disney’s ultimate classics and has been enchanting children for more than eight decades since its release in 1942. For some, however, the animated film also missed their first traumatic film experience – because the death of the mother of the eponymous Bambi is probably a of the most heartbreaking moments in all of film history. It is not surprising that “Bambi” disappeared from the children’s program in some households or was never included.
Since Disney is also planning a live-action film adaptation of “Bambi” after “The Lion King,” “The Jungle Book” and most recently “The Little Mermaid,” this is expected with excitement (and a bit of trepidation) – especially regarding to the question of how the remake will approach this particular scene. Because seeing the entire tragedy not only animated, but also in realistic images could increase the emotional impact. Screenwriter Lindsey Anderson Beer gave us a hint about this.
According to the screenwriter, ‘Bambi’ is no longer current
While she’s talking explained, things would actually be different with Bambi than the more recent Disney classics: “The point is: Bambi is a great movie. But audiences are used to a different pace these days.”

This also applies to the tragic scene about Bambi’s mother, which, according to Beer, is no longer entirely relevant: “I don’t want to give spoilers, but I think that many children, many parents, react a little more sensitively to the death of their mother than before. That’s why many parents didn’t show the film to their children.”
The mother’s death should take a new twist in the live-action adaptation of “Bambi.”
Beer and her team have thought about this carefully: “I really believe there is an opportunity to raise Bambi a little differently and our approach has given the whole thing a new twist. And I think taking advantage of the opportunity to bring the story to life for children today is also beneficial to the original.”
Lindsey Anderson Beer previously worked on the concept for the live-action remake of “Bambi” and will continue to serve as the creative force behind the project. Due to her busy schedule, including her upcoming directorial debut on ‘Pet Semetary: Bloodlines’, the author has now had to withdraw from the Disney remake. As Beer explained, the film is still in the works. reported that “Women Talking” director Sarah Polley should take her place in the director’s chair.
