Martin Scorsese regrets co-directing this hit with Leonardo DiCaprio

Martin Scorsese will release ‘Killers Of The Flower Moon’ in cinemas in a few weeks, his sixth feature film starring Leonardo DiCaprio. The director-actor duo first worked together on ‘Gangs Of New New York’ in 2002. Their last joint work is the capitalist satire ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’, which was published in 2013. In an interview, Martin Scorsese has now revealed that he would regret any of the films made with Leonardo DiCaprio: “shutter island“!

“Shutter Island” was well received by the audience

The filmmaker was dissatisfied with Warner’s handling of his previous film ‘Departed’ and considered never working for a Hollywood major again. However, the Oscars he eventually won for the gangster drama (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Editing) made him reconsider the situation and return to directing a studio project: the psychological thriller “Shutter Island”. A decision he somewhat regrets today, he said in an interview with told me because he would have preferred to focus on his passion project even then”Silence“have to turn.

The director has wanted to make the religious drama since the early 1990s. However, the project stood still for years. In 2016, the film starring Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver finally made its way to theaters.

In the interview, the master director also emphasizes that ‘Shutter Island’ will remain his last studio film. However, he does not explain why he seems to be so negative about his own film. Commercially, the film was his second most successful film with a worldwide box office gross of $295 million, and the film was also well received by critics.

How many more dream projects can Scorsese realize?

Perhaps the critical attitude towards this film stems from the fact that the psychological thriller was not the filmmaker’s dream project and that as he grows older he becomes aware of the fact that he will not be able to direct again forever.

In conversation with However, the 80-year-old hopes to make at least one more film:

“It’s just that I’ve come this far. And that’s what I do. […] And if I could just find the energy, God willing, to do a few more, maybe one more, and that would be it, okay? […] You keep going until you can’t anymore.”

We definitely hope to see a few more great films from the Hollywood legend. “Killers Of The Flower Moon” will premiere in German cinemas on October 19, 2023.
