Baylan’s secret master plan revealed in “Ahsoka”? Fans discover Skywalker’s kill list

Like virtually every “Star Wars” project, “Ahsoka” is full of – sometimes well, sometimes not so well hidden – allusions to the larger franchise. For resourceful fans, little remains hidden and they discover even the smallest Easter eggs, albeit sometimes only a little later. This can now be seen in an exciting detail about ex-Jedi Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson).

Several “Star Wars” fans have deciphered what’s on the small screens on Baylan’s wrists. Featured here are characters from the so-called Aurebesh alphabet, which is usually used in the ‘Star Wars’ world to capture the most common language in the well-known Basic galaxy. And in this case, big names from the “Star Wars” universe are behind it – which may not mean anything good…

Does Baylan want to kill Luke, Leia and Han?

As Twitter and X user Munira, among others, discovered and translated our alphabet: Baylan wears a list on one of his wrists with the names Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, R2-D2, C-3PO and Ben (best seen at the beginning of the second episode of “Ahsoka”):

Only later did Munira notice on the official Baylan figure poster that Baylan’s other wrist apparently had the letters “TRGT DAT”, which likely stands for “Target data”:

So are we dealing with some kind of death list of people that Baylan is targeting? This could certainly fit into another theory surrounding the former Jedi…

New clue to time travel theory?

Baylan and his student Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) have their own agenda in “Ahsoka” that causes them to fall through the cracks. Despite his departure from the Jedi Order, Baylan is still convinced of some of the teachings, but not of their implementation and of the order’s actual work in practice.

To him, the Jedi failed because they were part of an eternal cycle in which two sides of a conflict would always alternate in modified forms and which if continually repeated would lead to nothing. Baylan therefore plans to break this cycle and ensure a new beginning – and is on the planet Peridea in search of a mysterious power that will allow him to do so.

What this means is still unclear. However, there are rumors that it could be a way to influence the past and thus change the course of ‘Star Wars’ history. It would be conceivable here to provide further access to the mysterious world between the worlds, which in “Star Wars Rebels” already indicated the existence of time travel in the “Star Wars” universe and now also played a role in “Ahsoka” as the title character (Rosario Dawson) briefly landed there and re-encountered her old master Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen).

Could Baylan possibly be planning to travel to the past to find Luke and Co. at an earlier point in time and thus undo the events of the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, which is the current version of the aforementioned cycle that has been pushed forward?

Ultimately, these led to the fall of the Empire and the establishment of a new republic, which also provided the basis for Luke’s new Jedi Order – before it failed again and new versions of the First Order and the Resistance soon emerged. Facing Empire and Rebellion (as seen in “Star Wars” episodes 7 through 9).

Ben Solo on Baylan’s kill list

However, the name Ben, which likely stands for Leia and Han’s son Ben Solo, the later Kylo Ren, could speak to the connection to possible time travel (at least to the time of the original trilogy). He wasn’t born until some time after the events of “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.” And if Baylan really intended to kill Han and Leia in the past, Ben wouldn’t be needed as a target anyway.

So does he want to continue his list in the present and at least avert the later cycle events of the sequel trilogy by erasing all Skywalker remains? But what is behind the aforementioned force on Peridea, which required him to go to another star system, far away from his supposed goals? That remains to be seen, as does the answer to whether the names on Baylan’s wrist actually have anything to do with it and his true mission…

But just an Easter egg?

As exciting as the discovery of Baylan’s alleged hit list is, there are some indications that the creators behind ‘Ahsoka’ simply threw it in as an Easter eggwhich has no deeper meaning to the plot.

For starters, Baylan seems to be thinking bigger than just taking out a few targets, even if they are cogs in perpetuating the cycle. In addition, the composition of the names is a bit adventurous. R2-D2 and C-3PO in particular seem redundant to us (especially in the present) as targets. The droids certainly contributed to the proceedings, but only through direct interaction with the actual key figures.

But even if you accept that (maybe Baylan is just thorough?), it still seems strange that someone like Baylan would call Han Solo’s faithful Wookie companion Chewbacca by his affectionate nickname Chewie. This likely indicates that those responsible for “Ahsoka” simply wanted to save some space on the small screen to accommodate their Easter egg.

For some more clarity about this: the seventh episode of “Ahsoka“, which will be released tomorrow, September 27, 2023, in the early hours of Disney+.
