New on Amazon Prime Video: Gerard Butler shows a completely different side in this cinema hit

In recent years, Gerard Butler (“Kandahar”) has appeared almost exclusively in action productions, so he is mainly associated as a hero with powerful abilities. But even though films such as ‘Plane’, ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ or ‘Criminal Squad’ dominate his work, the Scottish actor also occasionally ventures into other genres.

In addition to the gangster comedy ‘RockNRolla’, the vampire horror ‘Wes Craven presents Dracula’ and the musical film adaptation ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Gerard Butler also showed his sensitive side in the cinema hit ‘PS I love you’. That’s what “PS I love you” is about

Even though the New York apartment is a bit too cramped and their plans for the future are different, Holly (Hilary Swank) and Gerry (Gerard Butler) the most important thing: their mutual love. Holly’s despair becomes even greater when her husband suddenly dies. But he’s taken precautions so that even after his death, he can still have some sort of bond with Holly. For example, the sad widow receives an obituary from her husband on her birthday, who asks her to go celebrate.

From now on, Gerry asks Holly in regular letters to do tasks to make her way back to life easier. But each of the letters ending ‘PS I love you’ also brings the memories back to life, so Holly soon becomes fixated solely on Gerry’s messages. Her mother (Kathy Bates) is concerned about this behavior – and the bartender Daniel (Harry Connick Jr.), who is seriously interested in Holly, can’t really reach her either. The culmination of the deceased’s plan is a trip to his Irish homeland, where the couple met…

Sincere entertainment cinema

In the official FILMSTARTS review, “PS I love you” received a very solid 3.5 out of 5 stars. In the conclusion of his criticism, our author Andreas Staben writes:

So if you have a penchant for heartbreaking romances, feel free to take a look here – and don’t forget your tissues, of course. Fans of Gerard Butler, who otherwise only know the actor from action thrillers, can experience another facet of the ‘300’ star here – and thus also close a gap in his work.
