The fact that Baylan (Ray Stevenson) and his apprentice Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) did not travel to another galaxy with Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) because they are followers of Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and absolutely want to help the Grand Admiral with The inheritance law of the empire was clear from an early age.
But in the new episode of ‘Asoka’, there are finally more hints about what the former Jedi really has in mind. As part of his own agenda, it could be about rebuilding the Jedi according to his ideas, or changing them and thus “Star Wars” forever. Because this reconstruction can start in the past.
We learn, that Baylan is searching for a power even greater than the Nightsisters’ magic. It seems that Morgan Elsbeth and Thrawn are completely unaware that this power exists on Peridea – and even the Nightsisters fear it. This force seems to be calling him. He believes he is the one who can take her under his control.
Break the cycle!
He already explains what he wants to do with this power in a conversation with Shin Hati. He wants to break the “cycle” he blames for the Jedi’s failure. In this context, it’s important to remember once again that Baylan is not a Sith. He is a former Jedi who also continues to follow many teachings. He trains Shin Hatti as a padawan, which is also symbolized by the typical braid she wears. But at the same time, Baylan is convinced that the Jedi were on the wrong track.
It is not yet known what exactly he means by this. But it is reminiscent of a discussion that has accompanied the Jedi for centuries in the world of ‘Star Wars’. They use their knowledge of power for peace and balance, but do not strive to become more powerful themselves. But there were always Jedi who criticized just that, who believed they were superior and chose to shape the galaxy. This is what Baylan seems to have in mind when he wants to break a cycle.
A new beginning – so time travel in ‘Star Wars’ after all?
But how does Baylan plan to break the cycle? According to his ideas, he may have a new Jedi order in mind. But simply setting it up would just be ‘business as usual’ with a different meaning. But Baylan doesn’t want this now. He speaks of a “new beginning” – and that invites wild speculation.
The idea of time travel in “Star Wars” has long been hinted at. In Star Wars Rebels, Ezra Bridger was seduced by the Emperor with this. He showed Ezra the possibility of saving his parents from death. Of course, the Emperor had the ulterior motive of using the powers of manipulating time to increase his power immeasurably.
But Ezra resisted and destroyed the entrance to the world between worlds, which played an important role in this. But we last saw exactly that place in the fifth episode of ‘Ahsoka’.
Key role for the world between worlds
In episode 5, the title heroine, played by Rosario Dawson, lands in this world and meets her master Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen). The scene had several functions. She is part of an important change process for Ahsoka, who is no longer seen in gray clothing but in white.
But the series also reminds us that Darth Vader was their master – which will play a role. After all, it is not without reason that Thrawn wants to know exactly this detail about Ahsoka in the new episode. It will shock Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) when it is revealed to them that Ahsoka has been keeping this a secret from them.

But Perhaps the many scenes in the world between worlds are simply meant to show once again that this place exists and is closely linked to the past? Could there be real access to the world between worlds on Peridea and does Baylan know about it?
At least we are in a place heavily influenced by power. The fact that the hyperspace whales chose Peridea as their burial site is no coincidence, but underlines the special character of this place. It is no coincidence that the last location where there was access to the world between worlds was also a special place for special mystical beings (namely the Loth wolves).
Will Baylan and Ahsoka become allies?
Besides, Baylan’s plan could make him an ally of Ahsoka, Ezra, and Sabine in the short term. It seems no coincidence that in this episode he talks about how the enemy of an enemy is an ally. Even if he refers this to the bandits Sabine had to defend against, one can already guess that his mission will also put him on a collision course with Thrawn – who in turn has no problem leaving Baylan to die on Peridea.
All of this is still pure speculation. But maybe we’ll find out in the next episode.”Ahsoka” more. The seventh episode will release in the early hours of September 27, 2023 on Disney+. You can stream the penultimate episode of the series on Wednesday from 3 a.m. The fact that there is only one of the total eight episodes left after this also raises concerns among many fans.
‘Star Wars’ fans’ concerns: What will happen to Ray Stevenson’s Baylan?
In any case, it is not expected that all plot threads will be concluded in ‘Ahsoka’. After all, we know that the series of the so-called Mandoverse, including ‘The Book Of Boba Fett’ and ‘The Mandalorian’, are heading towards a major film. The revelation of Baylan’s true plan may have been planned for this purpose, and perhaps even should have been the focus of the film. After the death of Baylan actor Ray Stevenson, the situation looks different.
There’s already a passionate debate going on among “Star Wars” fans: Should Disney and Lucasfilm stop using the character and forever just have Ray Stevenson’s stellar performance in “Ahsoka”? Or should she simply be recast so another actor can finish the great story Stevenson started?
This is still something of the future. In the meantime, if you’re interested in how this all fits into the full timeline of the saga, we recommend the following article:
