Munich Oktoberfest, the world’s largest folk festival, starts on September 16. Beer festival season has started in Switzerland. From Zurich to Chur, organizers attract visitors with beer, hit products and Bavarian gastro culture. Entrance and beer prices vary considerably. We have an overview of 16 important events.

Zurich

Zurich HB
Where: Züri-Wiesn, Bahnhofshalle, 8001 Zurich
When: September 21 to October 4

Cost of one liter of beer: 16.50 Fr.
Special: The hall of Zurich’s main station, where the festival takes place, was opened in 1847. There’s probably no place more steeped in history for an Oktoberfest.

Zurich Bauschänzli
Where: Stadthausquai 2, 8001 Zurich
When: October 5 – November 4
Single entry: 50 Fr. (including 45 Fr. consumption coupon)
Cost of one liter of beer: 17 Fr.
Special: Oktoberfest offers Bavarian brunch every Saturday starting at 11:00 am. Children are also allowed there.

Beer festival on the banks of the Limmat in Bauschänzli, Zurich.

Winterthur ZH

Single entry: 40 Fr. (including two liters of beer)
Cost of one liter of beer: 16 Fr.
Special: “Stadl,” a communal dance featuring music including Andy Borg, will take place on Sunday, October 29, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no age restriction here.

Uster ZH
Where: Landihalle, Quellenstrasse 6, 8610 Uster
When: September 29 – October 14
Single entry: 25 Fr.
Cost of one liter of beer: 16 Fr.
Special: If Bavarian food is too heavy for you, you can alternatively book an aperitif and champagne in advance.

Mittelland

Aarau
Where: Schachen horse racing track, Schwimmbadstrasse 18, 5000 Aarau
When: 6/7 October
Single entry: 20 Fr. (Friday), 25 Fr. (Saturday)
Cost of one liter of beer: 16 Fr.
Special: The festivities only take place on one weekend, but the beer tent is open until 2 a.m. every day.

Special: You have the opportunity to grab a beer starting at 10am on Sunday, October 8th.

At Rheinfelden AG, Oktoberfest is held within the historic walls of the Feldschlösschen brewery.

Solothurn

Special: The riding hall provides an atmospheric setting for the folk festival.

Zofingen AG

Special: Zofingen has live music and DJ every evening until 2pm.

Special: Oktoberfest in Suri, near Bern, is being held for the 31st time and is one of the oldest festivals in Switzerland. The party hall is open until late at night: it doesn’t close until 03.30. Special night bus connections to Bern and Freiburg are guaranteed.

In Suri, near Bern, the celebration continues until late at night.

Thun BE
Where: Stockhorn Arena Thun, Weststrasse 12, 3604 Thun
When: 19/20/21 27/28 October October
Single entry: 50 Fr. (25 Fr. consumption coupon included)
Cost of one liter of beer: 15 Fr.
Exclusive: The region’s sports clubs, including FC Thun, Wacker Thun, EHC Thun and UHC Thun, will be represented by players at the title deed ceremony on 19 October.

Grisons and Eastern Switzerland

Frauenfeld TG

Cost of one liter of beer: 15 Fr.
Special: At Frauenfeld, one of the few Oktoberfests in Switzerland, you can only pay cashless for the first time this year.

Chur GR
Where: Stadthalle Chur, Weststrasse 5, 7000 Chur
When: 27/28 3/4 October November
Single entry: 25 Fr.
Cost of one liter of beer: 16 Fr.
Special: Top chef Urs Auchter cooks Bavarian dishes based on regional ingredients for festival visitors.

Northwest Switzerland

Special: Opened in 1925, the Volkshaus is located in the middle of Basel and offers an atmospheric and spacious setting for Oktoberfest.

Oktoberfest in Basel is taking place for the third time this year at the Volkshaus in Kleinbasel.

Central Switzerland

Lucerne
