“How To Sell Drugs Online (Fast)”, “Dark”, “1899” – some German Netflix series are definitely worth watching and even receive international attention. The streamer can also score points with the new production ‘Liebes Kind’: the miniseries is already in pole position in the Netflix top 10 of currently most streamed content in this country.
No wonder ‘Liebes Kind’ by Isabel Kleefeld captivates with countless twists and turns and is ideal for a binge-watch marathon. There is of course a lot of attention to detail in German production – and you can even hear it…
A renowned Oscar winner was hired to score “Liebes Kind”! The Argentinian musician and composer Gustavo Santaolalla won Oscars for the music in ‘Brokeback Mountain’ by Ang Lee (2006) and ‘Babel’ by Alejandro González Iñárritu (2007) and is now behind the soundtrack of the Netflix series together with Juan Luqui. Incidentally, Santaolalla also composed the music for the video game masterpiece “The Last Of Us” and its celebrated series adaptation (he also received support from Luqui for part 2).
In a behind-the-scenes video of the Netflix series, Santaolalla explains: that what particularly interested him in ‘Liebes Kind’ was the combination of violence and vulnerability – and there really is a lot of that in every episode. The two composers tried to make this tension palpable with a mix of electronic music and acoustic instruments. And that worked very well.
That’s what ‘Dear Child’ is about
Lena (Kim Riedle) lives isolated with two small children in a darkened and locked house that is more reminiscent of a bunker. The small family is watched and controlled by a father figure with cameras. Everyone follows his orders and anyone who disobeys is severely punished. When Lena and her daughter Hannah (Naila Schuberth) manage to escape, the nightmare continues. On the contrary. It soon becomes clear that nothing is certain. Neither Lena’s identity nor her newfound freedom.
Who is Lena? And are Hannah and her brother Jonathan (Sammy Schrein) really her children? What does Lena’s father have to do with this whole thing? All six episodes of ‘Liebes Kind’ are currently available to stream on Netflix.
