Winners of the Roberto Lewis Visual Arts competition

This week, the winners of the 43rd edition of the Roberto Lewis National Visual Arts Competition were announced.

The winners of this version were fine artists: Pilar Moreno, Radamés Pinzón, Esviel Jeffers Durruthy and Moab Ayarza Harris.

The qualification jury consisted ofr José Ignacio Roca Acosta, Colombian curator with a long career and experience in Latin America, Europe and Australia; Tomás Javier Villa Fañe, senior curator Museum of Art in Buenos Aires and María Lucía Alemán Márquez, executive director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama.

This year, the basics of Roberto Lewis have been modified to, in the words of Isabel Burgos, National Art Director, “closer to international competitions and promote progress in the ecology of the visual arts sector.”

Pilar Moreno was the winner Grand prize of $10,000 for “The Flashing Girl and Other Proposals,” a work of “relational art.”

This work is presented in a book that shows a compilation of photographs where people with a mental health diagnosis, photographers and artists, have come together to express their emotions and give a voice to those without it.

Other winners in this event will be awarded $8,000 each.

In addition, it will be part of the exhibition of works in 2023 Robert Lewis with 15 works selected by the jury.

The exhibition will be held in October at Juan Manuel Cedeño Visual Arts Galleryin Las Bóvedas.

Since this competition started in 1980 retained its purpose of promoting creation and the quality of our visual artists, promoting continuous cultural action that strengthens the heritage of Panamanian art.

This competition is organized by the Ministry of Culture (MiCultura) through the National Art Administration.
