“Phenomenal”: High praise for new series starring “Game Of Thrones” star Sophie Turner

British actress Sophie Turner played the role of Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones for eight seasons, growing more and more viewers over the years. After that, Turner took some time off, became a mother and appeared on the screens only in 2020 with the series Survive. Now she’s completed another project that crime fiction fans should definitely keep in mind.

While Turner struggles to survive in the wilderness in ‘Survive’ and has to deal with wolves, in her new series ‘Joan’ it is mainly other people who harass her. She becomes a jewel thief out of necessity and seems to do the job quite well!

Brad Schwartz, The CW’s head of entertainment, praises Turner and her new series “Joan” in the podcast TV top 5 on the highest tones. On Turner as a jewel thief, he calls her ‘phenomenal’ and is sure that the production will bring prices. Of course it must be said that Schwartz is certainly not entirely unbiased, after all he is promoting a series from his own channel here.

As already mentioned, ‘Joan’ is a true crime series and tells the story of Joan Hannington, who rose to fame in the 1980s as a notorious jewel thief. Hannington was nicknamed “The Godmother” in the London underworld because her coups were so sophisticated and spectacular. But Hannington wasn’t always a criminal…

Hannington is in her twenties when she decides to start a new life. She wants to get rid of her abusive husband Gary and creates a new identity for herself and her six-year-old daughter Kelly. To earn money, she decides to steal jewelry and other valuables – with great success.

Incidentally, ‘Joan’ is based on Hannington’s own memories, which she recorded in her autobiography ‘I Am What I Am’. According to Brad Schwartz, “Joan” will air on the CW in early or mid-2024. It is not yet clear when and if we will see the series in Germany.
