Brown White and the Seven Politically Correct Companions

Snow White is getting a live action version. The film, like many before it, has been modernized – and has virtually nothing to do with the original.

The live adaptation of the Disney classic ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ is scheduled to hit theaters in March. But the film is already receiving heavy criticism – even before the first trailer has been released. There are several reasons for this:

As with many other classics, Disney tries to make the stories more diverse in hindsight. Snow White is played by the half-Columbian Rachel Zegler.

For many fans of the original, this is a disappointment. Because Snow White is clearly described in the world-famous fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm as particularly light-colored:

The Disney princess was even named after her skin color: “Snow White” or in English: “Snow White”.

Disney has been particularly criticized because many don’t believe the media company is really interested in a more diverse cast, but simply following a trend. In the widest variety of debates about racism, critics write:

But Disney won’t settle for a brown Snow White. Because the seven dwarfs in the film are not portrayed by people of short stature. This is partly because Peter Dinklage commented on it. The actor is known for the short character Tyrion Lannister in ‘Game of Thrones’ and thinks the dwarf portrayal in the fairy tale is ‘backward damn’.

Therefore, according to the photo, Disney decided to put seven “magical creatures” next to Snow White instead of seven dwarfs. They are embodied, among other things, by people of color, a man of short stature and a woman.

This caused quite a stir a few weeks ago. “Disney why don’t you write a new story instead of ruining classics?” one user asks on Instagram. Other critics complain that this would finally have been a chance to diversify different characters. People of short stature are extremely underrepresented in Hollywood.

What is Snow White besides a fairy tale? Precisely! A love story. But no, no, no, not in 2023! So the story does not tell that Snow White is poisoned and saved by her prince. Because the prince is not allowed to appear at all, or at least not as a potential lover.

But not only the love aspect will be missing in the remake. Many other lots are also being changed or removed. The story should revolve around Snow White as a “strong woman who finds her true purpose as a leader, as her father taught her,” Rachel Zegler said in an interview.

Speaking of Rachel Zegler, the movie’s biggest problem seems to be the actress herself. In recent weeks, several interviews with Zegler have gone viral, in which she makes herself extremely unpopular. When asked what the modern spin on the story will be, she replied, “It’s not 1937 anymore. We definitely didn’t write a story where Snow White dreams of her true love.” She also said that the original was a love story where the prince “stals” the main character.

Not only her words are criticized, but also the way she expresses herself: “The arrogance you have to talk so derogatorily about a story that is loved all over the world,” one critic writes Video and another says: ” Why is she playing Snow White if she hates the story so much?”

However, Rachel Zegler is not necessarily wrong with her claim. Even if the prince isn’t a stalker, many fairytale researchers consider the kiss at the end of the film to be infringing. Japanese professor of historical sociology and gender theory at Osaka University, Kazue Muta, says:
