In the south of Manchester (England), two thieves hatch a plan to break into an Indian restaurant after closing time and steal wine. Everything seemed to be all right, as the two had stolen bottles of wine worth about 2,800 francs and escaped recognition.

One of the two perpetrators was arrested soon after, the Manchester Evening News reported. Traces of fresh blood at the scene of the theft were analyzed for their DNA and compared to the police database, resulting in a direct hit. Radio signals from his cell phone at the time of the incident also placed the 49-year-old suspect at the scene.

sentence of imprisonment

After being admitted, the accused was sentenced to 40 weeks in prison and a fine of £500 (approximately 550 francs). But that’s not all: evaluations on the mobile phone led the police to the 39-year-old accomplice, who was later convicted again and had to pay the same fine. Both perpetrators lived about an hour’s drive from the crime scene.

The case shows that thieves targeting wine are not the only targets of starred restaurants. Unfortunately, it is not publicly known which bottles and wines the two criminals stole. With a possible value of 28 francs per bottle on average, 2800 francs can be reached with just 100 bottles.
