Summer is vacation time for most people, but not for the Alpentainer Trauffer (44). The musician is currently touring “Glöggelä” and is spending the warmer months in Switzerland. “I tend to be on the road more in the spring and fall,” he says in an interview with SonntagsBlick. “I’d rather stay here in the summer to work or spend time at the lake.”
This also has advantages. In our Alpine country, it is not as hot as in the Mediterranean region at the moment. “However, we’ll probably have to be prepared for the fact that it’s starting to heat up here as well,” Trauffer says. Where does he like to hide when the temperature rises? “In the cheese showcase,” she says and laughs. No wonder, then, that he is a cheese sommelier as well as manager of the hostel hotel in Hofstetten, near Brienz BE. “It’s 11 degrees where we store the cheese. So there’s no better summer activity than cleaning the loaves.”
However, the fact that he does not go on vacation in the summer does not mean that the father of two is sitting at home. Instead, he relies on trips in Switzerland. “Even though the coronavirus epidemic was tough, it still had its upsides: many Swiss, for example, went on vacation in their home country and changed their focus,” Trauffer says. Goodness is very close. “I really like being on the road in this country.”
Where does the Alpentainer go in the summer? Tattaaaaaaa:
one
Three Lakes Corner
“I know my way around Lake Neuchatel. This is a very beautiful place in Switzerland. But I don’t want to commit myself to a particular place. There are many beautiful hotels located directly on the lake. And the cold water invites you to splash around. My advice: rent a boat and gondola on the lake. This is one of the most beautiful things!”

brienz rothorn
«A trip to Brienzer Rothorn is an adventure for the whole family: the ride on the steam train to the top not only makes children’s hearts beat faster. I usually take the first train and then go to Brünig. Sometimes I treat myself to a Bärg breakfast at Berghaus Rothorn Kulm. The restaurant has been recently renovated and is an insider tip. But be careful: don’t forget your sweater. It can still be pretty cold in the mornings.”

English
«The cover of my album ‘Glöggelä’ was made in Engstlensee. Because I hike there again and again, most recently with my dog June. You can reach the lake from Engelberg or the Bernese Oberland and find the ultimate coolness there. But watch out. This is not for wimps. A mountain lake is very (!) cool even in the middle of summer.”

Mountain Outdoors
“The great outdoors on the plains attract crowds. For me, the festivals on the mountain are also worth seeing. The big advantage: In the evening the air is cooler and fresher and you have more space. I’m playing at Flumserberg this year too, and I’m already looking forward to the panorama.”

Cascade Cave
“Not long ago I went on a trip to Creux du Van in the canton of Neuchâtel. The detour to the Grotte de la Cascade in Val-de-Travers was well worth the effort. If you wish, you can eat raclette surrounded by stalagmites and stalactites throughout the tour. I finished my trip with a visit to the Mauler sparkling wine cellar.»
Trauffer is playing at the Flumserberg Open Air on July 29. Tickets are at Ticketcorner. Blick Group is a media partner.
