Ghost Towns can be found all over the world. The most archetypal and iconic ones can be found in the US, where lively city centers often sprang up in a very short time, then suddenly became depopulated again. That was the Wild West. From gold rush mood to gold rush misery within a decade.

But not all American ghost towns are from the late 1800s, and not all are western mining towns. However, they are all fascinating – and more often than not quite haunted – and deserted places where time seems to have stood still.
