Netflix releases photos from season five of The Crown

A few weeks before the start of the fifth season of “The Crown”, Netflix released several photos of the British royals appearing in the series on Friday. It includes Queen Elizabeth II, her husband Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Lady Diana, among others. “Welcome to the 90s. A first look at season five,” Netflix wrote on Instagram with the photos. The start for November 9 was already announced in September.

British Imelda Staunton (66) takes on the role of Queen Elizabeth II, Claire Foy and Olivia Colman previously played the queen. Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96.

Jonathan Pryce plays her husband Prince Philip in the new season. Prince Charles and Lady Diana are played by Dominic West and Elizabeth Debicki. Australian Debicki (32) succeeds Emma Corrin, who played the younger Lady Di in the previous season. A photo shows Debicki as Diana on a boat trip with Charles and young sons William and Harry. The marriage ended in divorce in 1996 and Diana died in a car accident the following year.

Since 2016, Netflix has been staging the lives of the British royals in its award-winning series. The first two seasons dealt with the Queen’s early years between family scandals and political crises. The fifth season would be about the early 1990s, when the relationship between Prince Charles and Lady Diana deteriorated further and further. (aeg/sda/dpa)
