The dispute over the legitimacy of Aretha Franklin’s will, which was handwritten in 2014, was finally resolved and the court declared it valid.
The document was found on his sofa after his death, and the legal dispute over the million-dollar inheritance went to trial earlier this week, July 10, in Oakland County, with a hearing scheduled for the next day.
“I am very happy. It has been a very long five years and now we can breathe a sigh of relief. It is a very good thing – said the youngest son of the “At Last” singer. Kecalf Franklinto the American Fox channel.
It was believed to be “Queen of Soul” he did not leave a will, however, after his death in 2018, two sets of documents were found that showed his last willone from 2010 and the other from 2014.
This situation started a battle over the validity of both handwritten documents among three of the four children of the American singer.
Attorneys for Kecalf and Edward Franklin argued the 2014 documents should invalidate the 2010 will, a version of which his son Ted White II supported.
The 2010 will listed White as his executor inheritance and required his other two children to obtain confirmation or diploma in business before joining heritage.
However, the 2014 text eliminated the requirement for that training and made Kecalf a wealth manager and heir to a suburban Detroit mansion.
His second son, the eldest, Clarence Franklin, did not participate in the trial because he suffers from Mental illnessbut both wills stated that the estate must support him financially.
Inheritance includes luxury clothing, jewelry, real estate and copyright, and is valued at approx 18 million dollars (16.4 million euros at today’s exchange rate).
However, the final amount will be reduced in agreement with tax administration of the United States to settle the nonpayment of more than $8 million in taxes, through a percentage of Franklin’s music royalties.
