James Gunn brings one of the craziest and most powerful DC superheroes to the cinema – actors and first appearance already set

The character was introduced in the Batman comic series The Brave And The Bold in the 1960s. Metamorpho’s alter ego is adventurer Rex Mason, who is exposed to radiation from a radioactive meteorite while exploring a pyramid. Then he has the ability to transform his body into any element. He can also do this only with parts of his body – he is so famous for turning his forearms into a powerful hammer or other weapon.

The character, initially known as Element Man, was primarily a Batman comrade-in-arms for a long time, but then he also got his own comic series and was also a regular member of the Justice League for a while. It is not yet known whether he will only appear as a comrade-in-arms to Superman in the new DC universe and may also get his own movie later.

Although Metamorpho will soon make his theatrical debut, he has already appeared in the animated series Justice League Unlimited. Spoken by Tom Sizemore, who died in March 2023, he was first a rage-driven opponent of the super team before switching to their side. Here’s an excerpt:

Anthony Carrigan will play him in Superman: Legacy. He was most recently thrilled on the series “Barry” – he was just nominated for a third time for his portrayal of mob boss NoHo Hank, who wasn’t actually born to be a criminal, for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor.

In addition, Carrigan brings a lot of DC experience. In the first season of The Flash, he guest-starred in two episodes as the villain Mist. In “Gotham” he was repeatedly seen as the psychopathic serial killer Victor Zsasz.

In an initial interview about his new superhero role as Metamorpho, Carrigan explained to the industry magazine that he was also drawn to the tragic side of the character. Although the transformation gives Rex Mason such powerful powers, he “feels like a freak”. He can relate very well to this because of his personal history and his suffering from the hair loss disease alopecia. He is especially happy that he is finally playing a hero.
