13 years have passed since “Tron: Legacy” was released. While there have been plans in recent years to develop another sequel to the 1982 sci-fi cult film “Tron,” no real progress has been made. However, since a few weeks the tide has turned and the long-awaited project entitled “Tron: Ares” is really moving.
Filming should actually start in July or August. In line with this, we’ve been mostly provided with casting news over the past few weeks, which has certainly raised expectations quite a bit. “Tron 3” stars Evan Peters (“Dahmer – Monster”), Jared Leto (“Dallas Buyers Club”), Greta Lee (“Past Lives”) and Jodie Turner-Smith (“Murder Mystery 2”). But that is not enough.
Than as now announced Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless”) also for von’s ensemble Joachim Ronning (“Pirates of the Caribbean 5”) staged sequels belong. Monaghan is also known for playing Jedi Cal Kestis in the video games Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor via motion capture. Also included is the one known from the acclaimed mystery series “Yellowjackets”. Sarah Desjardins to the cast of “Tron 3”.

This is what Tron: Ares is all about
Actually, in the “Tron” movies, it is customary to let real people immerse themselves in a computer world. Part 3 now goes in the opposite direction. Jared Leto plays the titular program, who regains consciousness and manages to escape to the real world. Greta Lee, described here as a video game programmer and tech company boss, is definitely involved because she feels compelled to go into hiding.
The story of the program making its way to the real world should not really surprise “Tron” fans, because exactly this idea was already hinted at the end of the second part “Tron: Legacy”. It remains to be seen how far Joachim Rønning will continue with “Top Gun: Maverick” creator Joseph Kosinski’s predecessor. In any case, you can expect an audiovisually impressive screen adventure.
