This Movie Sets the Tone for the New DC Universe and “Superman: Legacy”: Trailer for “Blue Beetle”

A major upheaval is upon us in DC in 2023: As the old DCEU comes to an end with the already launched “Shazam 2” and “The Flash”, as well as the upcoming “Blue Beetle” and “Aquaman 2”, preparations are underway the corridor for the new DC Universe (DCU) already in full swing. The one directed by DCU co-boss James Gunn himself “Superman: Legacy“ will be something like the official starting gun in the cinema – but also the mentioned “Blue Beetle“plays a special role.

As James Gunn has explained in the past and now emphasized once again on the occasion of the new trailer which you can watch above, Jaime Reyes aka Blue Beetle (Xolo Maridueña) will also have a role in the new DCU – although “Blue Beetle” is still technically in the DCEU era and Superman: Legacy is the first proper DCU movie. Gunn just wrote that at the newly launched Twitter competitor Threads.

Fired by this comment, the DC fans naturally watched the above trailer with particularly sharp eyes – and at the same time discovered a few possible clues that “Blue Beetle” could already be set in the DCU. These include the logos of the companies LexCorp (from Superman nemesis Lex Luthor) and ACE Chemicals (where the Joker first became the Joker), which can be discovered in the trailer:

LexCorp and ACE Chemicals logos deviate in the trailer from the versions known from the DCEU. Of course, there could be other explanations for this, such as a simple layout change – or the fact that “Blue Beetle” may be set in the (near) future (which is also indicated by the numerous futuristic neon signs that characterize the cityscape) . ).

Anyway, “Blue Beetle” (or at least the title character) still seems to have a role for the DCU. We’ll know more after the theatrical release of “Blue Beetle” on August 17, 2023 at the latest.

The plot of “Blue Beetle”

Blue Beetle revolves around Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña), who returns to his hometown after graduating. Since he no longer wants to keep himself and his family with temporary jobs, an interview with the Kord Industries group comes at just the right time for him that his girlfriend Jenny Kord (Bruna Marquezine) arranged for him.
