This is how it should continue after “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3”: James Gunn reveals the story for the spin-off announced at the end

“Guardians Of The Galaxy 3” is still playing in some cinemas, but James Gunn’s Marvel adventure can now also be streamed from your trusted VoD provider such as iTunes, Amazon and Co. So it’s time not to look back, but to the future of the film series.

Because in the end it is clear: the previous Guardians Of The Galaxy are in the past. A new team has been formed, which we will probably see in other films at some point. However, a spin-off is teased at the end Chris Pratt as Starlord. The final text also states that he will return. Marvel is making it so clear that the character will continue in the MCU – even without James Gunn.

The author and director of the previous Guardians films said goodbye to the MCU with “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3” because of his new role as boss at competitor DC – but not without launching a spin-off beforehand. Than that Star-Lord returns to Earth at the end and moves in with his grandfather is not just a joke, but a preparation for the planned story.

Spin-off “Legendary Star-Lord” shows hero back on Earth

In the audio commentary for “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3”, which can be heard with the purchase of the bonus content VoD, Gunn explains that he had been talking to Chris Pratt about a Star Lord offshoot on Earth for some time. The idea is to show him how to get used to life on Earth – in the same way, someone else is trying to adapt to life in an alien environment in space. So it’s a typical “Fish Out Of Water” story – only in plain water.

Gunn went on to say that he couldn’t wait to see this movie. Because he himself will have nothing more to do with it. Of course, this leaves some residual risk that Marvel will still reconsider and that Star-Lord may not remain on Earth, contrary to Gunn’s plan. At the moment, however, this seems like the most likely scenario.

“Legendary Star-Lord,” as Gunn himself calls the spin-off in the audio commentary, is officially on the Disney launch calendar, but not yet. It’s not yet known when Disney plans to bring Star-Lord back to the MCU. It must also be clear in advance who will succeed James Gunn as director – a task with very big shoes to fill.
