Singer Britney Spears has publicly condemned NBA player Victor Wembanyama’s security guard for slapping her after she tried to approach the young man to congratulate him.
Spears announced on her social networks that on July 5, she was at the hotel reception in Las Vegas, Nevada (United States), when he recognized the athlete from the San Antonio Spurs and decided to approach him to “congratulate him on his success.”
According to his testimony, in order to attract attention Wembanyama, the “Oops!… I Did It Again” singer gave her “patted the player on the shoulder”, and after that, the athlete’s security guard “without looking back” slapped her to the extent that he almost “knocked her out”, causing her glasses to fall off her face.
Spears admitted that she was ashamed to share her story, but that she was doing it to set an example to the public that people should be treated with respect and to send a message of solidarity to those facing violence.
The translator also stated that she is usually “harassed” by the fans and that she was also surrounded that evening by a group of at least 20 fans, none of whom were injured by her team.
Wembanyama gave his version of events at a media meeting and said he did not realize the pop star had tried to approach him hours after the incident.
“A person grabbed me from behind, not by the shoulders, and I couldn’t stop,” said the athlete.
“I didn’t see what happened, I know they pushed her away, although I don’t know how hard,” he added.
Spears filed a police report with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, and no arrests have been made so far, according to the Los Angeles Times.
