“Let’s turn the shit”: This is how Harrison Ford saved the new Marvel blockbuster “Captain America 4”

Harrison Ford was one of the biggest Hollywood movie stars of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny,” which got off to a rather disappointing start in movie theaters around the world last weekend, proves that his name alone didn’t draw so many people to the cinemas attracts like a few years ago. But in Hollywood, the now 80-year-old Ford is still a legend – this is also evidenced by an anecdote from the shooting of “Captain America 4: Brave New World“.

In the Marvel blockbuster, Ford plays the character Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, who has risen from US general and later secretary of state to US president. Ford takes over this role from William Hurt, who passed away in 2022 and who appeared as Ross in “The Incredible Hulk”, “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, among others.

“He’s Harrison fucking Ford!”

However, in Brave New World, Thaddeus Ross will play a much larger, more central role than in the films above – although not as big as main character Sam Wilson aka Captain America (Anthony Mackie). In each case Harrison Ford’s formidable presence almost made Captain America 4’s start go awrybefore setting things right again with his characteristic grumpy manner.

Anthony Mackie told the magazine namely: “The first day [der Dreharbeiten] was so intimidating. I was so damn nervous I kept forgetting my dialogues. He’s Harrison Fucking Ford. He has that look.”

But as Mackie went on to explain, Ford quickly made sure no one was more impressed. “He’s everything a movie star should be. He said, “Let’s turn that shit.” And everyone was like, ‘Yeah, let’s shoot that shit.’”

Not only the US president, but also Red Hulk?

Harrison Ford should have saved at least some of the filming of “Captain America 4”, which had already been repeatedly interrupted by the current strike of the American screenwriters’ union WGA. Because unlike Mackie also explained that he and Ford share numerous scenes where the characters clash repeatedly.

Incidentally, Captain America and Thunderbolt Ross are not allowed to resolve their differences with words alone. Ross has long been rumored to be the red fury monster Red Hulk, as in the comics, and a recently released image from the set seems to confirm this. In a year we will know more: Captain America 4: Brave New World is scheduled for July 24, 2024 in German cinemas.
