Challenging trail runs in autumn

Trail running is very popular in Switzerland, after all, there are countless great routes that you can run over hills and valleys. It often goes to the mountains.

While trail running in nature, you can only burn some energy in spring and summer, autumn is also a good time for this sport. Here we have listed some exciting track events that are happening soon in Switzerland that you can register for.

Trail running technique weekend Flims Laax, October 15 and 16

Anyone who already has experience in the sport and wants to improve their trail running skills can do so at the Bergfrey Trail Running Technology Weekend at Flims Laax GR. During the two-day event on October 15 and 16, running technique will be analyzed in various workshops and participants will do uphill and downhill running exercises. You’ll also get tips for effective trunk training and much more. The event is led by a sports physiotherapist and an outdoor sports specialist. Trail running and exercises are held in the Unesco World Heritage Tectonic Arena and Rhine Gorge area.

Costs: 480 francs (excluding accommodation)
In addition: You need your own trail running equipment and a good level of fitness – you should be able to run about ten kilometers at a time. You can find the registration form and more information about the event here.

Rinderberg mountain run in Zweisimmen, 16 October

The Rinderberg mountain run will be held for the third time on 16 October at Zweisimmen BE. The 12.8-kilometer trail passes through hiking trails and alpine pastures, along Simme, large and small. Trail running with great views of mountain scenery climbs to 1111 meters altitude and “Rinderberg Hill”. There are also two help stations on the way. Not only adults, but also children and teenagers can participate in Simmenlauf, which is 1.45 kilometers for children and 2.8 kilometers for teenagers. The starting point is the Zweisimmen school building.

Distance: (for adults) 12.8 kilometers
Altitude: 1111 meters
Costs: 35 francs (including gondola landing)

Transruinaulta Trail Marathon, October 22

Trail runners taking part in this track marathon will run from Ilanz GR to Itsis GR over the Rhine Pass on 22 October. Transruinaulta is 42.2 kilometers long and stretches from the starting point of Ilanz to its destination, Itsis. There are various treats and checkpoints along the route. The route, which starts with a single track, offers an impressive nature experience. After more than ten kilometers across the Rhine Gorge, runners must master the steep climbs on the Versam GR. It then continues onto Rhäzüns GR and Heinzenberg GR, from where it finally descends into single tracks again. There are three more steep climbs before we reach Itsis. The magnificent scenery along the road makes this track marathon worthwhile.

Altitude: 1800 meters

: 95 francs for the Transruinaulta, 175 francs for the Transruinaulta/Transviamala stage race

Gatrisch Way, November 6

Another event for trail running enthusiasts is the Gantisch Trail in the canton of Bern on 6 November 2022. There are different trails to choose from: 500m to 2.1km Children’s Trails, 10.7km Short and Trail, 23km Intermediate Trail and 35.5km The Trail. participants are withdrawn. On the challenging The Trail, you are on a single path, field and forest roads, and there are three help stations where you can get a drink. The run starts and ends at Riggisberg BE and runs along a beautiful route through Burgistein BE, Rüti BE, Gurnigelwald, Eywald BE and Gibelegg BE.

Distance: (Road) 35.5 kilometers
Altitude: 1570 meters
Costs: 50 to 65 francs

Kyburg Trail, November 13

The Kyburgtrail will now also take place as part of the 39th Kyburg Run, held from 12-13 November. On November 13, trail runners will be able to show what they can do: at an altitude of 500 meters, a distance of approximately 17 kilometers will be covered. The event in Kyburg ZH offers a childcare service as well as much more, including a banquet, a raffle and a communal warm-up for the Kyburgtrail.

Costs: 40 francs
