Travis Scott and the organizers of the 2021 Astroworld music festival in Houston (Texas, United States of America) will not face criminal charges in connection with the suffocation deaths of 10 people during their performance.
The decision was made by a grand jury and announced by the county attorney Harris, Kim Ogg, at a press conference where he assured that “no crime has taken place and no one is criminally responsible”.
“It is tragic that ten innocent people were killed they were trying to enjoy themselves nights full of music and fun (…) But tragedy is not always a crime and not all deaths are murders,” Ogg said.

In a statement to the specialized magazine Variety, the rapper’s lawyer Kent Schaffer welcomed the prosecutor’s decision and emphasized the innocence of the “Butterfly Effect” author.
He also expressed regret that Scott was singled out “inaccurately and wrongly” for almost two years, despite his efforts during the show to stop the tragedy.
“Now that this chapter is closed, we hope the government’s efforts will focus on what matters most: preventing future heartbreaking tragedies like AstroWorld from happening again,” he said.
