A must for all fans of horror, sci-fi and fantasy: the first 7 films for the FFF have been confirmed!

After I The animal kingdom (unfortunately there is no trailer yet) at the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival I sent a WhatsApp message directly to the Fantasy Filmfest program planners – but they had the completely original fantasy drama starring French superstars Romain Naturally, Duris (“Final Cut Of The Dead”) and Adèle Exarchopoulos (“Blue is a warm color”) have been on the screen for a long time. Nevertheless, I am very happy that the second film from “Love at First Stroke” director Thomas Cailley is now even available in an excellent slot as a center is in the program!

The Animal Kingdom is set in the near future where some humans begin to mutate into animals: Anyone whose hands slowly become claws or who suddenly grow feathers on their backs are locked up in a special reserve – on the one hand, of course, to protect society against the increasingly instinctive mutants. But also vice versa, groups continue to unite to hunt (alleged) animal mutants at an early stage. Certainly also a corona allegory, but “The Animal Kingdom” is so much more – mainly because it does not rely on muddy CGI, but mainly works with handmade and therefore authentically disturbing effects…

The double pack of total madness

The ultra-brutal and ultra-stylish serial-killer thriller “Limbo” has just filled the Fantasy Filmfest Nights halls and thrilled (if slightly traumatized) audiences: Now director Soi Cheang’s next film is being screened – and it’s hardly getting any less insane, because it is again about a sadistic serial killer, who this time is not only hunted by the police, but also by a fortune teller (Gordon Lam). We have Crazy fate already seen at the Berlinale and can confirm: over the top in every conceivable way!

For the next movie, we hardly need to explain why we’re talking about total madness here, since Nicolas Cage plays the lead. After capturing the hearts of festival audiences in particular with “Pig”, the god of boundless overacting embodies in Sympathetic to the devil a mysterious stranger who forces a seemingly random man (Joel Kinnaman) at gunpoint to drive him. The start of a twisted game of cat and mouse – maybe even with a shot of “collateral”?

Cult thriller with a cast of superstars

Director Nick Cassavetes has already delivered two classics of modern tear-jerking cinema with “Like a Single Day” and “In My Sister’s Life”. But now he’s in God is a bullet suddenly takes a completely different direction – and has secured the support of some (genre) superstars such as Jamie Foxx (“Django Unchained”): when his daughter is kidnapped by a satanic cult, police officer Bob Hightower (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, “Game Of Thrones”) takes matters into his own hands: he quits, gets a tattoo and infiltrates the sect around the charismatic leader Cyrus (Karl Glusman). Case Hardin (Maika Monroe, “It Follows”) – the only victim ever to escape the cult – helps him.

Also on the program is the Canadian ghost drama boundaries by Guy Édoin: Diane (Pascale Bussières) lives with her daughter Sarah (Mégane Proulx) on a farm in the Eastern Townships, near the US border. After a tragic accident, Diane is suddenly convinced that her house is haunted. Her mother Angèle (Micheline Lanctôt) returns to Canada from Florida to comfort Diane and reunite the family…

The sequel to an action megahit

The action hit “The Roundup” (itself a sequel to “The Outlaws”) grossed more than 100 million dollars in its home country of South Korea alone in 2022, despite the aftermath of Covid – an absolute mega hit, which then also appeared at the Fantasy Filmfest was seen in Germany. No wonder with thatThe collection: no way outis now followed up immediately – and in the third part of the brutal police series “Train To Busan” superstar Ma Dong-seok is of course back as a detective with more than questionable methods…

And last but not least, we have a real grab bag for you: Von night manCanadian director Mélanie Delloye’s feature debut, little more is known than a brief description of the plot: when a young pregnant woman hears about missing persons and mysterious murders in the region, she suspects her supposedly perfect boyfriend – who her father gave her unborn baby. baby a dangerous sleepwalker who commits all these crimes without knowing it?
