Rumors have circulated for years that Ridley Scott (“Kingdom of Heaven”) wants to direct a sequel to his Oscar-winning historical hit “Gladiator.” 24 years after the original, “Gladiator 2” is really coming. The main character is no longer Russell Crowe (anyone who has seen part 1 knows why), but Paul Mescal, who received an Oscar nomination for “Aftersun”.
Now we finally know when “Gladiator 2” will hit German cinemas: From November 21, 2024, the long-awaited sequel should hit the big screen in this country. Of course there may be delays until then, but for now the date is fixed in November.
This is Gladiator 2
The focus of the story is Lucius (Mescal; still played by Spencer Treat Clark in Part 1), the son of the Emperor’s sister Lucilla (Connie Nielsen). This was shaped by the exploits of Maximus (Russell Crowe) and tries to shape his life in such a way that Maximus would find it worthy. However, more is not yet known about the plot, it is known that it is known from “White Lotus”. Fred Hechinger will be seen as a villain on camera. He takes on the role of the Roman Emperor Geta.
In addition to Connie Nielsen, who is also back, Derek Jacobi as Senator Gracchus and Djimon Hounsou as Juba will also reprise their roles from “Gladiator”. But that’s not all, because there are some other very interesting stars to see in “Gladiator”. May Calamawy (“Moon Knight”) will take on the female lead, while Pedro Pascal (“The Last Of Us”) and Denzel Washington (“The Equalizer”) will play bigger supporting roles.
