No chance for naked Jennifer Lawrence, Pixar & “The Flash”: surprise hit takes over world No. 1 in the cinema charts

While the (predominantly) summery weather continues to keep viewership low in this country, there is currently a surprise to report on global cinema charts. With a gross of nearly $98 million, “Lost In The Stars” reached the top of the international charts. The film was able to gross nearly twice as much as last week’s No. 2: Pixar’s latest animated feature “Elemental” grossed $49.8 million.

This is impressive – as is so often the case with Chinese blockbusters – because the nearly $100 million was generated exclusively in China, where the film has been released exclusively on June 23 so far. It is not yet known if and when the film will also be released in other countries, such as Germany. However, one can already speak of a mega hit.

“Lost In The Stars”: Unknown – and somehow not

We’d be surprised if you’ve heard of Lost In The Stars before. And yet the story is somehow familiar to you. Because the film by director duo Rui Cui and Xiang Liu is based on a Russian film internationally known as “A Trap For The Lovely Man” – which in turn was adapted from a play by Robert Thomas.

At the center of the story is a young woman who disappears with her husband during a trip abroad. But just when the search for her is about to be abandoned, she suddenly resurfaces. However, her other half is certain: she can only be a fraud and not his wife…

By the way, if you look closer, the huge success of the film, like American industry magazines picked up, but then not so surprising. The cast includes a host of stars who have also been involved in some of the most successful Chinese cinema hits of the recent past – from Yilong Zhu (“Cloudy Mountain”) to Du Jiang (“Operation Red Sea”) to Ni Ni (” Shock waves 2″). They prove once again that they know how to lure the masses to the cinemas.

German cinema charts: “Elemental” & “No Hard Feelings” at the top

In this country, the charts inevitably look different: the weather still affects the domestic box office, but at least two films managed to crack or at least approach the 100,000 mark, however reported: With more than 167,500 tickets sold, ‘Elemental’ playfully takes the top spot – ahead of ‘No hard feelings“ (approximately 100,000 tickets sold).

“Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” is also doing extremely well in its fourth week and is in third place with 70,000 viewers. In Germany, 650,000 people already went to the cinema for the Marvel multiverse hit. “Arielle, the little mermaid” attracted 62,500 people to the cinema and is now on the verge of breaking the million viewers (965,000 tickets sold). With 55,000 tickets sold, “The Flash” makes the top 5 of the current local cinema charts perfect. Both worldwide ($ 210.9 million) and in Germany (185,000 tickets sold), the DC peak falls well short of expectations.
