New in theaters today: Jennifer Lawrence fights naked on the beach and the latest prank from the “Toy Story” studios

If you want to go to the cinema this week, you are spoiled for choice again. Next Jennifer Lawrenceof “No hard feelings” to revive the sex comedy genre, there is also the new Pixar movie “elementary‘ to see. Here we go to the city of the elements and experience a fantastic and moving love story between fire and water.

In “No Hard Feelings,” Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t just let go of all her inhibitions

“No Hard Feelings” could very well be described as an attempted sex comedy revival. The plot about a shy nerd who is driven to finally let go of everything and hire him an ad for a woman who should make his sexual confidence blossom seems a bit outdated in 2023. And yet there are some scenes that ignite really well. After all, director Gene Stupnitsky is a true comedy expert, who already proved with “Good Boys” how much fun these comedies can still be if you bend the rules of the genre a bit.

And “No Hard Feelings” is also very nice at times: The scenes in which things really get down to business are particularly hilarious. In one of the best moments, a stark naked Jennifer Lawrence fights a full body fight with a group of violent hooligans on the beach. What is especially striking is how casually the film deals with the nudity of the protagonist and how this reversal of the otherwise dour American prudishness can even lead to a few unexpected fits of laughter.

Unfortunately, the movie has a lot of idle time between the successful comedic interludes. In our FILMSTARTS review, our author Sidney Schering gives 3 out of 5 stars and comes to the following verdict:

“Elemental”: Can we expect another hit from the “Toy Story” studio?

Anyone who has never warmed to the genre of vulgar comedy and is looking for a film that can also be enjoyed by younger cinema viewers may be delighted with the new Pixar film “Elemental”.

Fans of the studio should be celebrating the theatrical release of the beautifully animated rom-com anyway, as after the pandemic caused the latest Pixar work to go straight to Disney+ and “Lightyear” recently became a very special “Toy Story” spin-off released in cinemas “Elemental” is finally a return to the roots of the animation company.

In our Critics award FILMSTARTS’ lead reviewer a stellar 4 out of 5 stars and judges:
