Mark Wahlberg as the lead actor and Peter Berg as the director: this combination has given us some action movies in recent years, namely “Lone Survivor”, “Deepwater Horizon”, “Boston” and most recently “Spenser Confidential”. Additional to that “Mile 22” airs June 22, 2023 at 10:30 PM on VOX (so often 22 in a pile – is that still a coincidence?). Alternatively, you can also find the action movie on VoD providers like Amazon. “Mile 22” is even available for free on the Prime Video channel MGM+:
In it, Mark Wahlberg plays the elite agent James Silva, whose special unit always comes into play when war and diplomacy go no further, and really cleans up the bad guys.
One day, when a spy named Li Noor (Iko Uwais) bursts into a US embassy in Southeast Asia, Silva and his men are ordered to escort him to an airport 22 miles away. Because Li Noor has explosive information that he will reveal only when he reaches the US. And for that to succeed, Silva’s team must defend him against many opponents…
Interesting but not really good
However, we can only recommend “Mile 22” to a limited extent: Action fans come to the “in the long run some monotonous action fireworks” Although at their expense (which is due in no small part to the participation of “The Raid” star Iko Uwais). But as you can see in our FILMSTARTS review (3 out of 5 stars), “Mile 22” is especially interesting because of its last fifteen minutes.

While Peter Berg and Mark Wahlberg in the “Clumsy Hooray-America-Ballerei” before that, her “in-the-world-someone-should-finally-live-out-dream-clean-up-dream”, “Mile 22” turns into an almost subversive piece of action cinema on the final straight. For spoiler reasons, we don’t want to reveal more about this at this point…
Is the sequel coming?
In the meantime, however, we can no longer imagine that the sequel to “Mile 22”, which has already been mentioned in the review, actually comes and is commissioned before the theatrical release of the first part (whether or not it is a movie or a web series).
Because even though the end of ‘Mile 22’ almost screams for a sequel, more than five years have passed without anything really new. The fact that the big plans for the franchise were thrown into the ground is probably mainly due to the disappointing box office result: only $ 66 million was collected worldwide, which probably means that those responsible even lost money in the end with “Mile 22 “.
