Beer is a mostly carbonated beverage made from hops, yeast, malt and water. Grain is required for the production of malt, mostly barley is used for this. The mixture becomes alcoholic through fermentation.

As a cold drink, beer is popular all over the world these days, but the thirst quencher is not just suitable for consumption. Beer can also be used as a home remedy for beauty treatments, cleaning, gardening, and even as a remedy for the common cold. A true all-rounder!

1. Warm beer against cold

Not only various herbal teas, but also warm beer is used as a home remedy for colds. It was even prescribed by a doctor in the past.

The bitter substances and essential oils in hops and malt are said to help against cold symptoms, have an antibacterial effect and provide restful sleep. In addition, heat is good for the throat and relieves sore throat. But be careful: this homemade solution is not suitable for minors.

2. To marinate meat

It’s no secret that the popular barley drink can also be used as a marinade for meat. To do this, turn the meat inside and season as you like. Beer contains less acid and vinegar than traditional sauces and gives the meat its own flavor.

3. Effective against rust in tools

Rusted old appliances can be put in a glass of beer overnight. The rust should be gone the next day and the tools can be easily wiped off with a cloth. If a few stubborn rust stains remain, you can repeat the process with a new glass of beer.

4. Beer as a furniture polish

Wooden furniture can be cleaned and polished with some light beer and a cotton cloth. It opens the pores of the wood and cleans the light oil stains and fingerprints on the surface. The typical odor of the beverage dissipates after a short time.

5. Inexpensive fertilizer for plants

Stale beer makes a great plant fertilizer. Green plants do well, especially in winter, if you give them a little water from time to time: No more than two parts water to one part beer should be used for the mixture to act as fertilizer.

6. Against pests in the garden

Slugs love the smell of beer and are attracted to it. Beer is a natural pest control agent when placed in a snail trap. It doesn’t matter whether the beer used contains alcohol or not. It is important to regularly empty the trap and fill it with fresh barley drink.

7. Hair care

Many people know that beer can be used as a shampoo as it is said to make hair shine and the brewer’s yeast it contains adds volume. Also suitable as a nourishing hair treatment: mix beer and liquid honey in equal proportions and apply the treatment to the hair lengths. You leave everything there for about a quarter of an hour and then wash everything thoroughly.

8. Instead of hairspray

If you use hairspray while styling your hair, you can also use beer, which dissolves carbon dioxide, instead, which you first pour into a glass and mix well with a spoon. Then fill the liquid into a small clean spray bottle and use it as a light to medium hold hairspray to fix hairstyles.

Here’s how it works: Spray the beer on your hair from a distance of about 20 centimeters. Don’t be afraid of the aroma! Since the liquid is atomized, there is very little in the hair anyway and the smell dissipates after a few minutes.
