“Avatar – The Last Airbender” is one of the most popular fantasy cartoon series ever. At the center of the three-season story is 12-year-old Aang, who has been tasked with bringing peace to the world, which is divided into several nations (Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, Air Nomads). To do this, he must end the Fire Nation’s war with the rest of the world. In the course of the story, he meets new friends and allies who support him in his mission.
But that doesn’t mean “Avatar – The Last Airbender” is off the table, as Netflix has made a live-action adaptation of the acclaimed series. The Tudum event in Brazil didn’t release the first trailer, as many fans would have liked, but it did show a glimpse into the protagonists – and that should certainly satisfy fans of the series:

It stars Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka and Dallas Liu as Zuko. While Aang is the last remaining air nomad and the avatar (i.e. lord of the elements) at the same time, 14-year-old Katara is the only living person of the southern water tribe who has water abilities. Sokka is Katara’s brother and very skilled with weapons. Zuko, 16, is the crown prince of the Fire Nation and will play a vital role in rebuilding all nations.
The fact that fans of “Avatar – The Last Airbender” also look at the 2014 live-action film adaptation with skepticism is due to the fact that the creators of the original series, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, have already left the project and objected that Netflix has developed the production in a direction that it believes has little to do with “Avatar” anymore.
Whether this is actually the case remains to be seen. To get you in the mood a bit more, Netflix has released not only the first character photos, but also the title sequence, which introduces you to all the elements again:
