With “Tyler Rake: Extraction 2” and the sixth season “Black Mirror”, Netflix unleashed two real hits on its subscribers last week. The new titles of the coming week don’t quite reach this caliber – and yet there are some exciting films and series that you should keep an eye on. We present the Netflix highlights of the week from May 19 to 25, 2023 sorted by weekday.
Monday: News for and about children
Monday is all about the little ones, albeit in very different ways. While the new series “The little whale horn“ provides adorable animated entertainment for the offspring, the documentation says “Take care of Maya“ the true case of a 9-year-old at the center who was admitted to the emergency room with a rare illness that her parents soon suspected had something to do with their daughter’s strange condition.
Tuesday: Comedy podcast on stage
In Germany, the “85 South Show” should be known by very few people, but the comedy podcast is quite a hit in the US. And with 85 South: Ghetto Legends there will now be a stage special of the responsible trio on Netflix, which should also give more awareness in this country.
Wednesday: New tennis stories
fans of “breaking point“ can look forward to the second season of the Formula 1: Drive To Survive team’s sports documentary series on Wednesday, following other top tennis pros on and off the pitch as they compete in grueling Grand Slam tournaments taking part around the world and experience ups and downs again and again.
Thursday: New German Netflix series & King Kong
In addition to Friday, Thursday is increasingly becoming the second major Netflix launch day of the week. So this time there are several promising series additions. For example, there is the animated series King Kong “Skull Island“which is part of the so-called MonsterVerse, which also included the latest cinematic adventures of the cult ape and fellow monster Godzilla.
On the drama series “glamorous“ meanwhile, the new series from Sex And The City star and How I Met Your Father narrator Kim Cattrall sees her become a successful makeup entrepreneur who takes under her wing a queer intern who is his to spy on new colleagues for a suspected saboteur.
And with “sleeping dogs“ the latest German Netflix series is also in the starting blocks. Here, Max Riemelt as a shabby ex-cop and Luise von Finckh as a rising prosecutor stumble upon a far-reaching conspiracy as they reopen a long-forgotten murder case.
Friday: Movies from around the world
Netflix is offering all kinds of new products again on Friday, this time mainly film fare from around the world, from South African heist action thrillers “iNumber number: Jozi Gold“ and the sequel to Spanish romance “Through my window 2 – Over the sea“ via RomCom entertainment from the US (“The perfect find“) and Turkey (“Sen İnandır – I want to believe you“) to the documentary “Dr Hwang Woo-suk, king of the clones“ about South Korea’s most notorious scientist and his sensational research into human cloning.
Saturday: Netflix rest day
So far no significant restarts have been announced for Saturday, so you can treat yourself to a little rest before the last day of the week is followed by a little more.
Sunday: horror sequel and DC finale
On Sundays, both horror and comic book fans will get their money’s worth. Of “Don’t breathe 2“ the deservedly 18+ limited sequel to 2016’s sinister surprise thriller makes its way to Netflix, in which “Avatar” villain Stephen Lang, as a blind and ruthless war veteran, is now the heroic protector of a little girl.
Plus there’s the dark and bloody DC series “Titans“ about. Or the young superheroes around Nightwing (Brenton Thwaites) and Co. will finally find peace in the fourth and final season, it appears from Sunday with all twelve last episodes.
