Waiting longer for “Avengers 6”: “Blade” chaos causes countless MCU shifts

We suspected it in our article from last night, now it’s actually happened: the behind-the-scenes issues of the upcoming MCU movie “Blade” are also impacting a whole host of other titles: “Avengers 6: Secret Wars” among others was postponed – unfortunately, that’s the way a movie series is as closely tied together as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Here’s an overview of all the postponements (all new dates are the US dates, the German start date should be two days earlier):

  • As predicted, “Blade” will no longer start in November 2023, but on September 6, 2024
  • Deadpool 3 gives way to Blade and now launches on November 8, 2024
  • “Fantastic Four” in turn slips from November 2024 to February 14, 2025
  • Avengers: Secret Wars” will no longer start in the same year as “Avengers 5”, but only on May 5, 2026
  • There were also a few shifts in launch dates for which no specific MCU movie has been announced yet

The “Secret Wars” shift in particular should be a hard blow to many Marvel fans, after all, after the announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, you could look forward to two “Avengers” movies in one year. Now there are twelve months between “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” (May 2025) and “Avengers: Secret Wars” (May 2026), as then with “Avengers 3” and “Avengers 4”.

This is how the “Blade” chain reaction started

In September 2022, it was announced that Bassam had left Tariq (“Mogul Mowgli”) as director of the new “Blade” film. Marvel and the filmmaker confirmed that they parted ways on good terms and that there was no bad blood. “Continuous changes in the production schedule” were to blame.

Later, however, more details came to light – Stacy Osei-Kuffour’s “Blade” script was still too short and bland, so that the protagonist Mahershala Ali (! ), announced in the summer of 2019, is also quite frustrated. to be.

Beau DeMayo (“The Witcher”) is currently revising the script as Marvel searches for a new director. However, there should be enough time until September 2024 for this – the shooting for a blockbuster of this magnitude usually starts a year before the theatrical release.
